Am I mad?

Live a little take a break, providing it doesnt mess up uni/school/whatever though, in that case wait until a holiday?

Bah. 95% of my PhD work is computer/literature based so I can take some reading with me (that way it won't stress me out). I've chosen a week that I don't have anything else on... 24/25th Oct - 4/5th Nov. But I will check with my supervisor first.

Just trying to find a destination. If I go to Korea I can stay at my friends for the week.... plus it is dirt cheap there and I know the subway quite well.

If somewhere else I need to factor in hotels etc...

Come on peeps! Get suggesting! Budget is £500ish for 4-11 days.

Assuming you are in England, get a flight to Galway and spend a few nights there having some of the best craic ever with the locals. There's seisiuns on every night and always plenty of craic to be had.

Yeah then go to Super Macs

Sounds like you need to get away - go for it mate, PhD's take forever, a week ain't gonna break your PhD (unless you have your transfer that week :p ) so take a week off and go somewhere random, like SK, Miami, whatever, and just chill out

I'm really fed up with a lot of things at the moment and having quite a bad time so I'm thinking about blowing £500 on a flight to South Korea to see a friend for a week.

Am I being stupid or what?

(if it helps, I spent 2 months there a year ago)

I got fed up of people not wanting to go places so I bought a £34 ticket to Edinburgh and flew up early morning and flew back late evening. I had a fab day :)

I am also looking to fly to eastern europe alone, just to have a break. People swear I am mad but at the end of the day I can't depend on people to go places with me. If I want to do something I'll do it :)

Actually, anyone any suggestions? Will consider anywhere.... even close to home (Ireland/NI even...).

I don't recommend NI. Maybe Ireland, but wouldnt you rather go somewhere far out?

Well I got a £4000 cheque today (funding for PhD)... now while some of that is spent, I figure I just won't eat for the next few months.... besides I have overdrafts and will get another cheque come January anyway....

What you researching?

I am currently looking at modelling HIV protein-protein interactions.....

Can go into more info if you want but it is quite slow paced at the moment as I'm doing a lot of reading/research.

The needle in dublin is hated by locals and tourists....theres no one I know of who likes it.

Polish people mug you in Dublin, we got loads in Cardiff they seem sound enough.

E-mail me and I'll be glad to :)

address> me at jonathandickerson .com (without the spaces and you know @ instead of at :D)

What background do you have then? Microbiology isn't really where this project is focussed, more computational/infomatics.
