Ok, so I am planning to build my first ever computer and I just wanted to make sure that I have everything and that it is all compatible. I know windows isnt on there yet as im still undecided on which one to get. But as for the computer.. am I missing anything?

Intel Core i3-3220 3.30GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail

Toshiba (7K3000.D) 3TB SATA 6GB/s 64MB Cache - OEM (DT01ACA300) HDD

TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless N Nano USB Adapter (TL-WN725N)

Going to be using the computer for general use such as holding pictures, music, films etc. Will also be using it for work so need it hold accountancy software (and perhaps design software at a later date) also want to be able to play a few basic games on it ( not online games)

I don't really want to spend over 500 if I'm honest, so far its at 530 :/ want to try and get it down if I can.

You won't be able to play games on that without a graphics card on top. An APU would likely be more suited, it's up to all the tasks you want.

First off look to hit 100 posts before you order as you could well qualify for free P&P. If you are undecided on an OS then use the Windows 8 evaluation for free on a 3 month trial.

Mobo includes wifi, the APU is gaming capable and the fast RAM helps the IGPs performance. SSD is a bit of a luxury item but will make the system very responsive. Of course you can tweak as you see fit.

Hope this helps

If hono's spec needs dropping in price the A8-5600K is a good alternative. Only slightly lower gaming performance, but it's about £30 cheaper.

Thank you so much for your help!
So will the combination I picked myself not play games like the sims etc?

Also is the AMD processor as good as the Intel?

The set up list you just posted - will that do everything I need it to do? And I think im going to go with windows 8 tbh just because there's not a massive difference in price regarding 7 and 8. 8 is the more modern one so makes sense just to get that one i guess.

You are most welcome.

The A8/10 are roughly on par with the intel i3. Where the AMD APUs pull ahead is that they have MUCH better integrated graphics (IGP). The i3 system really needs a dedicated graphics card added (GPU) added for gaming. The mobo I picked has bluetooth and wifi inc. so no need to pay extra for an adapter.

The APU is gaming capable, I deliberately added fast RAM to the basket to improve it's performance. Of course you can always add a GPU much later on if you want more gaming grunt.

That's just the A6 (dual core) APU which has an even lower rated IGP, it's also running "slow" 1600Mhz RAM. You can expect better from what I've spec'd but it just goes to show how capable these APUs are when on a tight budget.

With regards to psu, would it be worthwhile looking at the corsair 450w psu that is modular for a couple quid more in such a small case?

Yes modular would be nice but it's a 430W PSU not 450W. The CX range is the budget end but still good. I'd personally go with the XFX as it's made by Seasonic (i.e they make very good PSUs) and has a little more juice should you want to add a GPU later on.

The Corsair CX500 is ~£55, that's usually what I would spec in the prodigy but I'm sure you can appreciate I'm trying to balance everything out to a price :)

An A8/A10 build can run on 300W easily, but if you think you might later add a graphics card, 430-450W is advisable.

I also have a question about RAM.

With the teamgroup Xtreem ram, its 2400mhz. The MSI motherboard only supports up to 2133mhz.

Should i change this or would it run at 2133mhz instead?
