Just got one of the new 360s with Reach. Fired it up for the first time and I have to say I am less than impressed.

This is my first time playing a console game since the original Xbox, so it's been a while.

I figured with all the hype surrounding this game (people saying it's amazing and what have you) I'd give it a go, but seriously what's the deal? The graphics look (IMO) pretty crap and there seems to be this weird haze over everything, as if they knew it looked rubbish so they tried to cover it up.

Yes I understand the 360 uses oldish hardware and yes I get it's only 200 quid. Is this really the best it has to offer though?

Perhaps I've become spoilt by my lovely PC :(

Sorry for the rant. I'm just a little disappointed. And yeah I realise this is in general discussion, but I figured if I made it in the gaming section I would just get flamed even more.

Okay enough said

I thought it was common knowledge that consoles suck unless you are cheap or plan on having freinds around to play with you.

I've always loved consoles though. Used to have all the Nintendo ones growing up and was really in the Sega Saturn and PS

Guess my break of 4 years has changed things :(

The graphics will never be as good as a top-end PC obviously, it's the gameplay, convenience an playability that make consoles that much more attractive. The fact that I can sit on my couch playing RDR with a pad instead of nerding over a desk with a keyboard and mouse.

Yeah that makes sense. I'm just a little surprised at how poor the graphics actually are. I figured that now the 360 has been out for a few years they would have optimized it to at least be some what impressive. Guess not :(

What were you expecting. It is a 5 year old console that cost less than a PC graphics card...

You're right and I wasn't trying to flame with this thread, I guess I was just a little taken back at how bad the graphics actually were. I've been spoilt by having a sweet PC. Going back to consoles is just not gonna work, unless it's for nostalgia or chill out sessions

The Hype for reach isnt based on the GFX, its the gameplay, MP game and the whole experience. It looks better than halo 3 but i would put it on a par with MW2 (playing on neighbours 360 not mine) but the lighting is very good indeed. If you bought a 360 for a GFX showcase compared to a high end PC then your made a mistake, it plays good looking console games that compare to PC of a few years back, or a current mid-range one. Halo Reach isnt the pinnacle of GFX on the 360, not sure what is but Alan Wake can look fantastic at times.

I've just been playing the Dead Rising 2 demo now and the graphics seem quite a bit better. Much more the type of thing I was expecting

You need to re-asses what the 360 is. It's not a showcase for graphics, take your 'I need everything to run at 4xaa 170000x188888' head off and just enjoy it for what it is.

Yeah I understand... I never expected the 360 to be as good as a PC. Like I mentioned it was just that I was rather suprised at the lack of innovation since the original Halo. Anyways I've obviously got a distored view on consoles now. I think I'd probably enjoy going back to SNES games instead, simply for the gameplay and nostalgia

Well just a quick update... The 32" arrived and unpacking it I was quite excited. Was well impressed with the build quality and size etc (my first large TV as I use my computer for almost everything).

However having plugged the 360 in it's just ridiculous. The quality has gone from poor to awful. I'm not joking, it looks so much better on the 23" computer LCD.

So you guys can flame me, but this is an absolute joke IMO :(

Summary: "my PC has better graphics are better than your xbox, oh and look at all the other stuff I'm buying, you want to touch me don't you....... yes you do!"

Totally pointless thread that could have been a side note in the official thread.

Your post is pretty pointless.

Here's a pic:

Bit meaningless though as I obviously need a new camera since it can't take a decent shot. And it doesn't show the difference very well

a £1k PC is better than a £200 console.

The funny thing is that once you've paid for the screen, console, games, Live sub, you're talking £600-£700, not £200.

Anyways I give up. Not sure what I'm gonna do with it at the moment. Will test a Blu-ray on the screen soon, if it's awesome I'll scrap the 360, if it's crap I'll just run the console on a HDMI supported monitor
