Am I racist?

What equality liberals don't seem to get is that among whites there has also been plenty of discrimination based on religion and ethnicity, for example, plenty of hate directed towards Catholics and the Irish.
Hey, it was a fair kind of discrimination though "No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish". Before the 1950s, it was just "No Dogs, No Irish".

I heard a corker over at Speaker's Corner a week or two ago talking about how the Irish "didn't have it that bad".

I know this will be controversial but I feel Rio is a little ashamed by his mixed race status and secretly wishes he was 'fully black' (for lack of a better phrase) which is why he is the self-appointed leader of the outraged club.

there does seem to be some of that with his, he appears to feel the need to "take sides" which I think is the motive behind this and that is the problem this sort of group leads to an "us and them" attitude beased on race

Race, religion, skin colour, nationality, hair colour, weight, height, attractiveness, intelligence - are all used as excuses to be a douche to one another.

People need to just stop being jerks & stop separating people into groups/silos - that creates the "other" syndrome which erodes empathy & causes the very problem they are trying to solve.

The sooner everybody stops banging on about skin colour the sooner we can move past it as a species.

The association need not exist in the long term, it will be there to act as a pressure group while racism prevails, and it's not like that is in short supply.

It's not something I would support in the long term, but if I were black, I can't imagine I would be content with the current efforts to deal with racist scum.

Pretty much my thoughts as well

An offensive comment is only as offensive as the person who is the victim makes it. If black people choose to get offended when they are called monkey's or n**** then that is their decision. We can't tell them not to be offended by it.

Is that really the best you can come up with? Blaming the victims?

Where did I blame the victims? Someone is obviously looking for an argument.

re-read my post.

When you said that an offensive remark was only as offensive as the person who is the victim makes it. Also when you said that choosing to get offended when called a monkey is the black persons decision. You know, the bit I quoted?

I have re-read your post, and yes, it really does seem like you are excusing racist behaviour and blaming the victim for getting offended when in reality it is the morons that do the chants that are to blame and we should be doing our utmost to stamp that sort of rubbish out.

If you actually meant something else then please explain what it was because it is far from clear from your post.

Cultures do not mix

Is this why my family spend several days a week with other cultures, going for meals, spending time together, swapping cultural foods, looking after kids and being friends...?

"Birds of a feather flock together" is certainly true (friends/sub-cultures/hobbies... anything), but in my personal experience it's normally 1st/2nd generation cultures that this happens with and slowly cultures meld.

The whole idea of the group is to get rid of racism. But by only allowing black people in the group is encouraging segregating themselves and thereby encouraging racism. It seems that the leaders of the group are not the best patrons for it.

This bit I agree with. You simply cannot segregate yourself to combat discrimination. Racism to combat racism? Yep, great idea.

"We are against racism!"
"Me too, can I join?"
"No white guys"

It's not just race. Be it homophobia, sexism, gingaphobia. You simply can't argue for equality while separating yourself.

An offensive comment is only as offensive as the person who is the victim makes it. If black people choose to get offended when they are called monkey's or n**** then that is their decision. We can't tell them not to be offended by it. A white person may not be offended if a black person called them whitey or whatever they may choose, that doesn't mean black people should be because white people aren't.

This is where you fall down.

I am going to kick you in the gonads. If you choose to be hurt by it, that's your fault, not mine. Everyone has their own pain barrier, you just chose to have yours lower.

Support group for what? If it's racism then what they are doing is actually fuelling the problem by encouraging a victim complex and also promoting segregation. They should be working with white people not creating a group to fight against them.

Why can't it be a "footballers against racism association" which also allows white people to join?

Is that really what the group is for or what you think it is for?

Going by some of the repugnant attitudes here we should be letting the following behaviour slide because other (white) players get just as much abuse
No wonder we have such a massive problem with racism within our youth when you have supposedly mature civilized adults sending out these ridiculous beliefs/logic

Hopefully this bigoted moron will get arrested and punished with the full force of the law! Racism has no place in civilized society!

I'm not racist because racism is a crime and crime is for black people.

Is that you in the picture??? Grow up, you sound like a moronic BNP/EDL knuckle-dragger!!

You tell me, you seem to be the expert. If that's not what it's for then what is it for?

I can only say what I see as an outsider looking on. Public perception and outward appearances are important for groups like this if they want to actually achieve what they set out to achieve.

correct so why do they want a seperate organisation? time for folks to get a grip and realise that this sort of thing only makes it all worse

No, I don't agree at all.

Why should a support group not be set up to help those that need support? I would say that on the whole these support groups do a lot of good for their group, be that an ethnic origin or other.

Problems don't 'just' solve themselves.

Is this a "you're only racist if you're white" type of feeling sorry for yourself thread?

Nothing to discuss here, apart from racist apologists patting each other on the back.
