AM I WRONG

I live at home and pay £500 a month rent. It's vastly cheaper than if I was out on my own. I have been paying rent since they day I got a job (at 17)

Given the price of housing here I would have little to no disposable income if I went it alone and I am not in a relationship that would allow me to comfortably sail through a mortgage.

Blooming Ekk! Thats crazy money! So they expect you to pay 1/2 their mortgage(hypothetically), good one!

Id rather be doing my own thing and poor than paying into that. Mental!

If its too expensive where you stay why not move?

... Actually i think your pulling our monkey

you have a responsibility to teach them the value of money and the cost of living, stick to your guns, i was paying board as soon as i earned, and rightly so, although i didnt like it, i realise now, i had it easy

I have an old cardboard box near me front door.

For £500 a month you could rent that if ya like I will bring you a coffee every morning for free.

Prices in Oxford take the pee tho, don't they :p A cardboard box for £500 a month would be about the going rate there :p

I didnt get charged on my gap year, dad said to use the money on my trip instead. Though i did pull my weight around the house. Also beer, treats etc i had to pay for myself. I expect something similar when im home for summer but if im asked to pay board i will.

If i was working properly or sitting around doing nothing with my life i can guarantee i would be made to pay board or i would get kicked out.

I paid £5 p/w out of my £18 wage as board when I started working.
You are going to see them become nothing that any mother could be proud of if you aren't careful.

I pay £325 a month in rent to my mum and I'm 23, my girlfriend pays £220 a month to her parents and they have so much money that they don't even notice it.

In short paying rent to parents when you have a job is the done thing.
