Been invited to have a 2010 Subaru Impreza Sti 330s for an entire weekend.

Problem is - what happens if it re-lights my fire and I want one? :(

I think they are really quite pleasing from the outside, but inside they lacked somewhat, the usual Impreza cheap, dull feel.

I wish I could say that I was a hardcore enthusiast enough to replace the ST with an Impreza, but I think I'd hate it when I'm not going fast, which lets face it, these days is most of the time.

Perhaps next year, I'll revisit the idea and test drive one again.

I dont see anything overly special about the Focus ST interior to that of an Impreza.

Assuming you've been in both for any amount of time, you'd surely agree the Focus is a much nicer place to be on a day to day basis.

But my comments about hating it when I'm going slow, go beyond the interior, things like the drive at low speeds, ride comfort etc. all contribute.

The new car is a lot more mature than the previous - it's actually quite capable of getting you 200 miles up the road without arse or head ache.

Ive owned a Focus and an Impreza STI. I didnt see much difference in either of them, not enough to quantify a significant difference in choosing one over the other. If anything the seats and driving position in the Impreza were much more comfortable than the Focus.
I never had any complaints about the low speed ride (or hi speed :D) of my Impreza. Then again I was 25 at the time and didnt really care about those things.

I'm 23, but I do care about those things, to a degree - The ST is probably just about middle ground for me, it seems slightly more comfortable than it should be, considering the way it handles.

That said, where I live is a real test on a cars suspension and ride comfort, our roads are terrible (and not just since the snow), so perhaps that is where my particularity comes from on the matter.

Cant agree, driven both and the Subaru is in my oppinion a nicer place to sit and comfier than a Focus ST even when commuting in traffic.
Then find the twisties and poor ST left for dust.

Ah if your roads are really bad then yes the Focus ST does have the softer suspension making it quite not as firm, so can see your point there.

I can see your point if your roads are terrible, but if you drove an Impreza for an extended amount of time you would see that its really not as bad as people make it out to be, and the latest model is much more refined than its predecessor.
I owned a 172 and found that to have the worst ride comfort out of every car Ive ever owned, very bumpy and spine jarring.

Mate stop convincing yourself, you bought a ford, live with it :)

I bought a Ford because it was the car I wanted, for the money I spent, I could have bought a Hatch WRX of a similar age and mileage, and could still trade in for one tomorrow, with little (if any) cost incurred.

I'm not trying to convince myself, the Subaru just wasn't for me when I bought the ST, and it still isn't now.

Thats without even considering the insurance, and running costs.

In what way?
From what I remember the steering uses a quicker rack and is more feelsome, the engine is the older 2.0l boxer unit (as opposed to the UK's 2.5l) with a twin scroll turbo and is more reliable, more tuneable etc. I think there are suspension tweaks as well and it's just meant to be a better car to drive.
