Am scared....

I don't think they look too bad in STI form, from the b-pillar forward it is a great looking car IMO. I just wish it were a three door, and that the rear arches were as 'muscular' as the fronts. Would look much better.

The looks have actually grown on me, having seen a few decent-spec ones around. :o

I no longer look at them and think "Proton"

If you buy a car from Subaru they seem to believe you are a customer for life, Threeways gave me a 330S late last summer for a couple of days, I'd be interested to hear what you think of it.

The newer shape but not like that 2010 one you posted is actually rather good looking, especially in white. One locally and it is always pleasing on the eye when I see it. So was the female driver :D

It looks like a crappy kev'd up hatchback.

Obviously it isnt, its a fantastic car, but I just hate the hatchback look.

The current shape Impreza DOES come as a Saloon - I saw several in Australia. It looked awesome, why therefore are the STi's over here crappy hatchbacks?

Agreed, my neighbour has the new STI, looks fantastic IMO.

Be interested to hear your thoughts Fett :)

It's evolved to a fairly polite everyday car with a really decent turn of pace. The simplest way of describing the change is this is what the previous WRX offered in but in a faster, more focused package, but it's dropped the bad manners and harsh edges of the blobeye and to a lesser extent hawkeye STi. I never had any issues with my blob 05 as far as using it as an everyday car but that's only because I was willing to forgive it's flaws. It's obvious they are trying to make the car more friendly and a more viable daily, it's a decent bit of kit with a great engine, slightly let down a lot of hard plastic. Nothing new for Subaru, but it's a big negative in this incarnation. The previous STis sold because they were impressive bang-for-buck B road missiles with little thought to comfort so you could forgive the interior and the ride. The 330s is compromised because it's trying very hard to grow-up but it's still got ginger hair. I had a rattle behind me in mine as well but I'm sure that could have been sorted.

This isn't the driving hero in me coming out, but the only way I could get the car to feel as urgent and responsive from corner to corner as the older versions was to dial everything back and turn off the ESP and put it into the top sports mode (Sport+?). It is a quick car with a nice torquey feel and still can get you grinning but suffers from pitch as well which I don't like and for me, too much body roll for an STi. That said, it really does shift.

The different maps or settings are distinct so it also works at pootling around. Only had it two days, didn't drive it as much as I should have, it stayed on b roads but I'd guess it would be pretty bland and fairly comfortable on the motorway so that's an improvement. It is a far more flexible car than the old, just a bit number, less manic and I was left feeling that a couple of grand spent tweaking it would make it really worthy of the STi badge, or at least the way I interpet it.

I was really suprised by how much better the STi version looks in the flesh though, the car doesn't photograph well at all and it's not too bad. That said, I'm one of 7 people who loved the blobeye so not the best person to ask.

Well, actually, I believe the Astra looks like the Subaru.
I completely agree. If the badge was blacked out and he'd just said I'm driving one of these, I would've assumed that it was the new Astra VXR. It looks very dull IMO. The Evo however, I think is amazing. Now that they've sorted the service intervals, I can't think why you'd not go for one over a scooby.

EDIT- Actually, I think they cost a bit more than the scooby, in which case, I'd get a Lancer Ralliart or a Focus ST. The scooby holds zero appeal for me.

It looks like they stuck the front of another car, 1 size bigger on the front from the windscreen forward. Ugly as and ugly thing but if it goes well and drives well that can be overlooked.
