I have not done much searching but my mate is looking for a DDR3 Motherboard, but is not willing to upgrade his Processor...

Are there any out there?

Thanks in advance...

Asus did a AM2+ that had ddr3, but you sure your mates CPU can use ddr3? The memory controller is on the CPU these days.

AMD processors have the memory controller in the CPU. An AM3 processor has both DDR2 and DDR3 memory controllers and thereby will work in both AM2+ and AM3 motherboards. Older AM2 processors will work in only in AM2 and AM2+ motherboards has they have a DDR2 memory controller only.

Some AM3 motherboards have both DDR2 and DDR3 memory slots though:

If the friend of the OP has the original Phenom it will only work in AM2 and AM2+ motherboards. If it is a Phenom II it will work in AM3 motherboards which use DDR3.
