I've been looking for the last 2 days for info on updating my old AMD 2500+ Barton, 1gb DDR Ram.
Reason is my 3 x Hyundi B91D 19" TFT's + Matorx Triplehead2go.

2 week ago i bought a SAPPHIRE ATI RADEON X1950 PRO 512MB AGP. It worked great, but it will only go up to a resolution of 2400x600 with my Th2go. And only 2 desktop screens. ( I should have checked before I bought it ). Sold it on the bay. Going to buy equivalent nVidia.

But i might as well update CPU, mob, Ram and go Pci-e for GC. But i'm confused which to go for. AMD have so many CPU, which do i go for? I think the best is Dual Core. The 2 below are about the same price. But which is better? I play games,(single sceen at the minute) and internet a lot with 3 screens open to differrent sites.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ 2.40GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail
or
Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Or do i go for the cheaper. So extra money for other stuff.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2.00GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail
or
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail

( is this 3800+ Dual core better than the single core)?

All help pleae. I'm a bit thick.

I would go with C2D. No point in upgrading to AM2 and then upgrading to C2D later on (cause AM2 wont last long). May as well get C2D now and have the right hardware for future upgrades.

£500 is more than enough for a nice upgrade to C2D. Do what im doing and get the motherboard and ram now and wait till next month to see how the prices fair. To be honest, i dont think they will change that much but we shall see.

I recommend the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 (S3 if you want to save a few £ cause they are the same). And the C2D E4300 cause it overclocks like a beast with budget ram.

Say about £500 at a push. I heard there is going to be a price drop on C2D soon.
Also i would get cheap C2D, and get a better Graphic card. Say £200 on GC.

Get a C2D(4300/6300), PC5300 Ballistix, DS3, 8800GTS, sorted.

c2d all the way, something like this would serve you very well :)

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (£119.84)
Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£82.24)
Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-5300C3 667MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AA663) (£129.24)
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (£205.61)
