AM5 build spec 1440p £1200 ish

Though I have an old win7 key from my previous build, will that work?...
It did, but there were news stories around October 2023 that Microsoft had stopped old Windows keys (7, 8.1) activating fresh installs of 10/11 and I've personally not been able to activate an old key since that date.

Thanks, I may as well give it a go and cough up if it doesn't work

Good idea, cheers!

Need a retail key for win11 now. Though I have an old win7 key from my previous build, will that work?...
if you linked it to your email it should just follow that when it asks for activation , have several linked to my account

Thought I'd check back in, gaming performance is ruddy excellent I have to say!

I had a quick question regarding temps, prob a common question.

So I have the Lian Li 207 which is decent when it comes to an air cooled case temperatures wise (going by review feedback), with a pair of stock 120mm fans blowing air directly at the GPU, 2x140mm intake fans from the front, and a dual fan setup on the cooler (Thermal right Phantom Stealth 120). My temps during a game such as Fortnite, or Stalker 2 seem a bit on the high side, I'm getting the following max temps from Libre Hardware Montior:

CPU core 80.5C
GPU Core 65C
GPU Memory 90C
GPU hotspot 84C.

The CPU temp feels hot to me, and the GPU memory also seems OTT. I have read that these AM5 CPU's run hot, but just wanted to check this sounds normal for my config.

Thanks

Went into bios and system fans were running on Dc mode. Changed them to PWM and put smart fan control on, haven't changed the curves, but everything is significantly quieter now at least. Will see if temps also manage themselves a bit better this way also

That's pretty standard, nothing to worry about, pwm helps for noise, but the way the CPU and GPU operate I wouldn't expect a reduction in temps by much

My small office is prob around 20-22C ish once heating has been on a little and the pc has been running.

Since my previous post CPU temps have remained around 65C during gaming in Fortnite. Maybe it is just stalker2 that taxes the cpu the most out of the games I've played so far as I haven't seen 80C since. GPU temps are consistent though, 90C mem, under 65C core.

It's the way they boost under demand.

They have a preset limit and will shoot straight to that limit when required to maintain optimum efficiency or at least what AMD have decided is optimal, but only when they need to operate under high demand. You will find the motherboard has a preset temp limit so the CPU will hit that and stay there. 90 degrees is what AMD say their design is limited to.

As you say it was likely that temp due to the higher demand of that specific game.

Fortnite isn't taxing to the CPU so the temp would be lower.

@BAcon

These Chips love being Undervolted - Usually ends up in Lower Power Consumption, Lower Temps and an increase in Performance.

Do some Research on how to tame them, it’s very well documented on YouTube etc.
