AM5 build spec 1440p £1200 ish

Just thought I'd check in.

So glad I committed to a £550 7900xt rather than waiting for this next gen release, given stock levels, performance and pricing of 50XX I couldn't be happier with what seemed like a gamble back in November/December time! Especially that AMD cards are still up to 2 months away.

@BAcon

These Chips love being Undervolted - Usually ends up in Lower Power Consumption, Lower Temps and an increase in Performance.

Do some Research on how to tame them, it’s very well documented on YouTube etc.
So as an update also, I set PWM fan curves in bios to tame the noise.

I also did some PBO tweaking, negative 30 on the core curve optimiser.
I also set the thermal limit to 85C and 85W, though I believe a stock 7700 PPT is 87W or similar anyway. So it's a minor change at most.

Ran Cinebench 2024 multi core and hit max temps of 59C, so I can probably increase the PPT somewhat given how much head room there is.

I'll run stalker 2 tonight and see how hot it gets with the GPU running at 100% for a more accurate idea of running temps in gaming.

Cheers

When I run ryzen master I think it only increased max speed by 100mhz. Can't understand that, my room is cold, got a massive cooler

Just looked it up. Looks like an OS based over clocking tool? Back in the day it was all in bios, so I've stuck to what I know.

How are the software based tuning tools?

Have you played with PBO in bios?

Yes, it has a few options.

But it doesn't seem to do anything once you're in windows, it's not like boost is +400mhz or anything like that, not like my old xeon I overclokced it by 600mhz or something like that
