been looking at these today....was browsing the 27inch version.......DM2780D

the only thing that bothers me is connecting my pc upto the display via hdmi......never got a decent picture on my current 27inch lg using hdmi

also are these plug n play type things? just hook up pc, select 3d , put the goggles on and off you go?

how does it compare to a regular 120Hz 3D monitor with nvidia 3D vision? can I use it with an AMD gpu? could anybody explain to me how does it transform a 2D image into 3D? what sorcery is that

ohhh, just imagine 3 of them :D

nice price as well, depending how good the panel is in 2D/3D

I feel eye-infinity coming on:P

I have this monitor (bought from elsewhere). Just arrived yesterday and I got to play with it for several hours.

It does come with 2 3D glasses: one normal and one clip on.

It uses the TriDef 3D software for 3D playback. It won't and I stress WON'T play blu ray movies in 3D, even if you have the likes of PowerDVD 10 and above. I have a copy of TRON Legacy in 3D and while PowerDVD can play it, it doesn't do it in 3D when you change it. Tho I read somewhere someone has been using PDVD10+ to watch blu ray in 3D so I will look into this more.

DVDs in 3D are not bad, but it does have ghosting issues. I put this down to the glasses from what I have heard from other reviews and such. So might be best to try the Zalman glasses people have spoken about (ZM-SG100G I think).

My other issue with the monitor is the OSD settings. I have it connected via DVI and when I select the 3D option it tells me this is not available. Which kinda sucks.

However, that being said, I think for an entry level 3D monitor for people not wanting to splash too much cash, it is worth it. I just hope soon, TriDef support 3D blu ray and blu ray movies altogether.

Also, for those wanting to use this for gaming, it does not do 120Hz. 60Hz is your max. But from other reviews I have read, people are saying the 3D in gaming is rather good. I won't be using this for gaming since a) my gaming PC still has a 4870X2 and b) I would prefer a slightly more expensive monitor for that. But we'll see.

Overall, it is good. Ideally you want to be sat a very good distance to reduce the ghosting and enjoy the 3D during movie playback and perhaps gaming (recommeded 50-90cm distance).

Hope this little "review" has helped. I am sure as time goes on I will enjoy the monitor more. I guess I was kinda hoping for something more.

No competition most likely. I've got the nvidia 3D vision kit 2 (latest version) and the 3D effect is very pronounced in most games whilst the glasses are comfy and the software is built into the graphics card drivers.

The drivers actually tell you on rated games at the start which settings to change in order to get the best 3D experience you can, which is a really nice bonus. You can also enable a 3D crosshair, which is a real game breaker in games that have a hardcore mode or no crosshair as default (ie killingfloor) as you can enable this at the click of a button in game lol.

Tridef doesn't have any support to games, yet it can work to some degree with most titles out. The only time you'll hit major issues is with games that are simply not designed for 3D based on how they render content. Aliens versus predator 2010 is a prime example of this as 3D doesn't work at all on it. If you try and enable or force it, you get some weird artifacts on the screen due to shadows converging at crazy angles.

As for the AMD 3D part, they can only do 3D over HDMI 1.4 as far as I'm aware. Might be worth checking up on this to make sure!

Ok another review to be added here for this monitor.

In order to get the best out of playing blu ray movies in 3D, best to use PowerDVD 11 and above.

When setting up the 3D, make sure to select "Micro Polarizer LCD 3D (Row Interleaved)". Also, if you choose to, you can enabled hardware acceleration in the main settings menu for video.

I tested out TRON Legacy 3D and it works really well. So ignore my previous comment in my other post about not being to play 3D blu ray movies, cos it can. You just have to use the PowerDVD settings itself.

It does also state that you can use Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre 5, tho I have this, it does not have an option for 3D. So if you have this you might want to check first.

In addition, here is a link to AMD's PDF guide regarding getting the best out of the necessary software. They even list this monitor as one of their recommended monitors for 3D use: http://www.amd.com/us/Documents/AMD_HD3D_Setup_Guide.pdf

Also, for those wanting to use this for gaming, it does not do 120Hz. 60Hz is your max.

Active 3D systems need to be 120Hz because each eye only sees every other frame so the effective frame rate is half the actual frame rate (if you see what I mean). The trade-off on a passive system, though, is that as both images share the same frame (using polarzation to show them to the correct eye) you lose half the resolution ... so I think that the 3D display is effectively 1920x540 in each eye. Thus you are still playing the game at the same framerate but there's a loss of resolution - though it may be that the addition of 3D may make the brain less likely to pick up on any "jaggies" that this causes.

That said, this looks very interesting .... especially if, like me, you already wear glasses then the passive system with clip on lenses looks much more convenient than having to try to wear two sets of glasses at the same time!

Think I'd probably want to see one "in real life" first though + from a little research I did when I first read about these passive monitors then a 27" combined TV/monitor might be more interesting!
