Amazing mpg

Whilst I know it canes my fuel economy I've gone back into my old habbit of driving as fast as I dare get caught at on the dual carriage way (75 to 80 on the GPS) which kind of defeats the object of me having an "economical" car as at these speeds I thing I see about 35 to 38 mpg :o

The trip meter clocked me at 70mpg.... on a 1.4 petrol honda jazz...

My current work situation pushes me indelicately into arms of something known as Civic IMA for my daily commute as my next car. It's the same jazz engine paired with electric motor. The torque loving fattie in me doesn't want to get anywhere near 14s to 60 times ever again. But everty time someone posts those 60-70 mpg figures from those puny honda engines my wallet bytes me through back pocket. IMA would let me park directly in front of my work inside congestion charge zone without parking or CC penalties... Ayayay...

managed to get the trip comp to read just over 45mpg on a 250 mile trip on Friday :)

Took ages to get here tho, loads of traffic and slow moving motorway stuff :(

Good grief, that in the 172? If so did you reset the counter just before you set off?

Don't think I've seen even 40mpg on mine at the end of any journey :(

that is insane MPG, but 60mph would be torture, esp if you were in a car that would comfortably double that

i commend you on your will and perseverance.

Yup that was for that trip only, got there with just over half a tank left! It's becuase there was a lot of 50mph hardly touching the accel driving going on.

my 2.0 16v golf averaged 38.something mpg both on the way to and from work today (30 mile each way, 7 miles of which are D/C, the rest town and b road) and thats with a tiny bit of thrashing in there.

the computer is accurate to 0.1 mpg, ive tested it loads of times.

I get 33mpg on mixed driving, some back roads, driving normally not really flooring it, and motorway.

If i drive the car like it should be i get very poor mpg sub 20 easy.

mine used to easily go below 20mpg, now even when hammered hard it only seems to go down to 26mpg. all since i changed the fuel pressure regulator, which in turn made it pull harder for longer at the top. the car confuses me

My old Honda had an economy light on the dash. It basically lit up when I was driving efficiently. This made it very obvious after a short while that blasting down the motorway was an enormous un-necessary waste of fuel. The sweet spot for the engine was 3000 rpm which in 5th gear gave 70mph. Awsome economy, of course vtec'ing will ruin the economy but it's great to have the choice. :D

If your not on a time limit, just stick to an even speed apply small amounts of juice to overtake and save money...

i agree that the 300 mile trip at 60mph took about an hour longer than if i drove at 70mph.... and the cost going going from 55mpg to 70mpg saved me only 6 quid at the most.... but hey, 6 quid for an hour is roughly what i get paid anyway.... so, rather than working another hour to make 6 quid, i'd just sit in my car for another hour watching the motorway :D

having said that, on the return trip i went at 70mph because i got bored .... :p

Peugeot 307 2.0L Petrol - my normal economy was around 26-27 Mpg getting to and from work and for use during the odd trip in work.

Now i have swapped jobs and i am paying for all my fuel i get around 32-33mpg which i am quite proud off 16 Miles each way all B roads.

I dont know how you lot mange 45Mpg+ 60-70Mpg is crazy.

I will be replacing my car on febuary i will have to decide if i want a boreing ecomobile or a Turbo'ed Jap car.

Time is more important to me than money, i don't go around thinking wow look how many MPG i can get, because thats A) Boring B) People will think your boring C) if you want MPG get a derv burner.

The other reason i don't mind throwing money at my car is its a good laugh to drive, if i have some rot box that drunk the stuff then i would prolly think different.

Yes you may have achieved really good mpg, but you added another 45 minutes to your journey. Me, I'd rather spend that little bit more on fuel and get to my destination that much sooner :)

LOL Reminds me of a waste of time trip I had to London once for some arts council thing and I was being a good boy. 65 all the way there, 65 to 70 all the way back... then some inconsiderate fool decided to crash and block the A47. Sat in traffic, had to divert around Norwich to cut out a single junction then got the hump and nailed it as quick as my little shopping trolley would take me the last 14 miles :o

I always drive economically when I'm working. I see no point in rushing, as I'll just have to do more calls. The money I save goes in my pocket, as I get paid a fixed rate per mile.

I did just over 1000 miles in the last 2 weeks - 1 full tank and 2 £20 top-ups - and averaged 60.1 mpg. That's in a Vectra 1.9 CDTi, with the boot and back seat full of spares.
Oh, and no motorway cruising, either - we don't have such things here!
