Amazon codes on eBay - wtf?

I've seen a few of these £10 codes sell for £9.90. Is it really worth the hassle of saving 10p?

Then there are these:

£10.00 code selling for £10.01
£32.73 code selling for £33.30
$15.00 code selling for £14.50 (note that latter>former)

All 3 auctions have bids and haven't ended yet. All 3 sellers have 100% feedback, so they're probably not scams. Why are people bidding on these if they're higher than face value?
 
It always puzzles me with other things on eBay as well. I see games that are available At other places but £10-15+ more... Do people actually buy them? Do they not do a search on prices? Very strange...
 
There were some Tesco fuel discount vouchers on eBay a few weeks back and by the end of it they were costing more than you could save and people were still buying them, crazy!
 
Yeah Dbmzk! I was actually searching for Tesco ones first, witnessing bids on these, when they are freely available in the public domain on Moneysavingexpert and on other discount sites. I know they don't all work nowadays as more and more people become aware of the freebie codes but I still get the odd hit.

Those Amazon code sellers probably don't use Amazon themselves or at least not often enough to warrant using it on themselves. The bidders are Amazon users and are either bidding for themselves or for a relative to give for their birthday. Paying more for the code or even just 10p less still doesn't make sense when you can issue the code directly through the Amazon site.
 
There must be some reason? I really can't believe someone could be stupid enough to search for a £10 gift card yet pay more. Maybe there are some deals where you save money if using a gift card or something.

I bought 20 for £10.
Sold 2x5 for £5, and the rest will do for me an my family.

You're right though, when the vouchers were able to be combined so you can get 15p off a litre people were paying obscene prices

Sadly most people don’t research prices

So yes people do buy them ive watched a few items like that just to see if the person could sell them at the higher price and strange enough the items sell lol

Ive sold many games or DVDs on eBay and people have bidded higher and higher and almost got twice the amount which you can buy them brand new in certain shops

Ebay is full of idiots that ruin the second hand market, people often bid more than a brand new item costs. Eg, D7000 camera costs <£600 brand new, but people often bid more than that for a used one, they are a cancer on the world.
 
I've done it a few times myself whenever my winnings from William Hill or a refund was deposited into my paypal account. This was because I didn't want transactions on my bank statement because the lady who did student overdrafts on the phone would pretty much interrogate me about my spending whenever I asked for an increase.

edit: Although I rarely went over the actual value, a few pennies over didn't matter.
 
I've thought that too, maybe they are using a voucher that eBay / paypal send out to its customers?

still silly to save a quid or so

Moving money from a paypal account to a bank account wouldn't show up as any spending...

What godforsaken bank were you using? Normally you just select the increase online and you get accepted automatically if you're a student.
