Amazon Echo - anyone have one?

Would be nice to have the dot playing from the sound system via a bluetooth to optical adapter in my room - but when I switch the optical switch to another input (such as PC) the dot won't realise as the bluetooth connection will likely remain connected (since the bluetooth adapter will still be powered on)

Please let me know if you find a solution to this - I'd like to be able to connect the echo to my A/V receiver via Bluetooth to play music, but I wouldnt want it connected permanently.

I have my echo dot connected to my AV amp for music. If I ask Alexa to connect bluetooth it turns on my amp and connects. If I turn off the amp or ask Alexa to disconnect bluetooth it does (amp doesnt turn off if I disconnect bluetooth however).

Just gave it a test on mine and it worked first time, played a few of my albums directly through the Dot! :D

Getting really annoyed with it now. I cleared the skill, and then made sure I had no Plex apps or players open, then re added the skill. It found the correct server as usual so I ask it to play some music and it says okay and the alexa app shows it heard me correctly and played what I asked, but nothing played anywhere.

Even the Plex website says it should now come out the dot -

Tip!: If you're playing music/audio and do not specify another Plex app as the player, playback will occur on the Alexa device (e.g. the Echo).

Anyone know how to clear the dot completely so I can start again, or is that just a case of deregistering it and then reregistering it?

That's weird, the Dot I tested on is usually connected to Plex on my media PC. I just turned the HTPC off and it sorted itself out and played out of it's own speaker.

Haven't tested with an amp as I don't have one with bluetooth (or an adapter) yet.

But having had it a bit longer now (Echo and also a dot) - I can say for the Echo (and therefore the dot too, just not tested it) you can simply say for example "Alexa connect my ipad" and it will do so and play music FROM the iPad and then "Alexa disconnect bluetooth" and it should disconnect.

I assume it works the same in reverse for a speaker (output instead of a source like the iPad) and that's what @pepp77 is describing? So you could just say disconnect bluetooth when you want to switch back to using the dot speaker?

Just removed all skills, then unregistered the dot. Re-registered it and then before doing anything else added the plex skill. Asked it to play some music and it said it had set the correct server and will play the music I wanted, but nothing. The Alexa app again shows it heard correctly and had started the music!

So frustrating.

My Echo is driving me nuts lately. Since Friday, the tunein skill is crap

“Alexa, play TalkSport on TuneIn” (which normally plays straight away and has always worked, I say it twice a day every day)
“Do you want me to play the station TalkSport”
“Yes”
“I’m sorry I can’t find a station called TalkSport on TuneIn”

Every time! Yet...

“Alexa, play TalkSport on the radio”
“Playing TalkSport on TuneIn”

Fuuuuu

Mines being doing almost the same thing but I used to say 'Alexa, TuneIn Planet Rock' which worked until a few days ago and I get the problem you describe.

Now if I say 'Alexa, play Planet Rock on Tune In' and BAM!

Has anyone got the Echo Show?

I've got quite a bit of a balance on Amazon and could do with another Alexa. I'm wondering however whether i should buy 2 of the Shows given that they do £100 off so it's only £300 for two of them.

I'd probably want to put one in the bedroom, can you set the screen to turn off easily enough?

Just set mine up this evening. My brother in law got it for my wife for her birthday. Still playing around with it. To be honest I'm not sure what we'll even use it for?

Well, I've ordered three Amazon Echo's (through the £50 discount offer) and also a Dot. I intend to put an Echo in our lounge, kitchen and in my gaming room. I like the idea of being able to link them together as well. I think the Dot will be used as an alarm clock for upstairs in our bedroom, although I'm not 100% sure yet.

I've given up using mine as an alarm clock. It's a nice idea but I find it very difficult to stop the alarm, I normally have to say "Alexa, cancel the alarm" at least 3 times before it'll stop sounding. The only reliable way was to push the dot button and then tell it to stop but that wasn't ideal.

I've just ordered myself an Echo. I found a £30 voucher code on Very for new customers so it only cost me £40! I still need to get another Dot for the man cave so might grab one while they're on offer.

I really need to start using mine as an alarm clock in that case. I'm useless in the mornings and having to put effort into stopping something could be what I need. I can usually mash my phone in my sleep and turn it off without knowing.

Hopefully someone has the answer on there!
