Amazon Fire TV

Let me know what the Amazon support is like. eg: If you get anything other than stereo sound etc!

I've sideloaded the new Amazon App off of Shield Experience 5.0 (the new OS shipping with Shield v2017) on to my 2015 Shield still running Experience 3.3 and it's running perfectly with DD+, UHD and HDR. It's only downside is the current version doesn't allow adding to watchlist.

Im going to buy the new nvidia shield tv for streaming kodi netflix amazon & android. Hopefully that will be a lot faster than my fire tv box, & on a + note I will be able to do a bit of gaming also.

It wont be any quicker with kodi, netflix etc.
I had a shield for year and just sold it for Fire TV box which is just as slick as the Shield.Bizarrely there are more apps on the Amazon box than there are on the forgotten Android TV OS.

It's substantially quicker for Kodi/SPMC can passthrough HD Audio, handles 4K rips better, can even deal with HDR files with ease and most importantly isn't crippled by a 100 Mbps Ethernet port and HDMI 1.4.

Ive been using the Shield for a year and now use a Fire TV,Kodi,Plex,Netflix they are the same speed through menus, interface, loading i can assure you.The rest of your post is irrelevant to me.It's certainly not crippled having 100MB ethernet port as i stream 45GB bluray from my server no problem.

Can I ask what Plex is like on the Shield? Smooth video playback? Audio formats supported etc?

I can assure you they are not, especially if you are 4K and you want a native 4K interface and 60Hz refresh ;)

As to 100Mbps being enough, no it's not; particulary with good bitrate 4K material :)
