Roku's Plex app is stable as you like (even old one that you use on Now TV sideloaded) . On the Fire TV absolutely not.

Plex (on FireTV) has stopped playing some files for me which were playing a couple of weeks ago. Strangely MrMC on the same unit (using the same Plex library) does still play them!

Can the BBC Iplayer app be locked out or removed for those of us without a TV licence? What happens when you click Iplayer on the Fire TV? Does it auto play, ask if you have a licence?

It will ask you about the license

But you don't have to launch the app

That's fine for me but I was worried about someone else loading it up. Was hoping it could be locked or uninstalled.

The simplest way to get anything like that on is "MrMC" for a few pounds... If that's not "Kodi" enough for you, there's plenty of articles & videos showing you how to install it as an App - How/if Amazon continue to ignore it is another question I guess.

Given Amazon Prime is going to be streaming content in Dolby Vision HDR, what does that mean for their own 4K Amazon Fire boxes? Will these be able to show that content?

Thanks chaps. Tried it via USB and Total Commander but it didn't like the Kodi app to install. Not running an Android phone so I'll have a search for another method.

Just discovered Plex on the AmazonTV isn't really supported/developed very well. For example, it doesn't handle any extras (featurettes/documentaties) etc. So it's not easy to see you have them/watch them!

Sideload it with ADBFire.
To be honest that is the only way I know how to do it.

For installing Kodi and other APKs i used ES File Explorer which you link to your Google Drive folder.Just drop any APK to your Drive folder then use ES File to copy them to your Fire TV and install them that way.

What I did was use ADBFire as suggested then I installed es explorer opened up the ftp and I installed Kodi on my PC and get all the things setup (addons, theme, scr urls to my movies etc) then I used the ftp to copy over my user folder.

After that bingo, all worked and setup.
