I would like to know where I stand on this from a legal standpoint.

An Amazon Logistics driver delivered a parcel by opening my front door without knocking, walking into the front porch, throwing the parcel on the ground and then leaving.

I assumed it was the missus to begin with so I never moved but upon hearing the door close again I went to check what was going on to find the parcel on the floor, seal broken and sitting open. There's no receipt inside but I have seen this a couple of times from Amazon so I don't know what to think there but now I am trying to figure out what my options are with this and the best course of action to take.

I am of course going to complain to Amazon about it when the missus gets home( it was ordered on her account) but should I let the fact that he was trespassing go or pursue this?

Any advice is welcome.

Should have locked the door? It could have been anyone never mind a helpfull delivery deiver.

Sure you will get the sane response from amazon maybe including "we will tell our driver not to open unlocked doors in future"

If you leave your door unlocked then I think it's perfectly acceptable, and in fact useful for a delivery driver to leave the parcel for you. You should thank him for saving you getting up and answering the door. If you have an issue with this then perhaps you should lock your front door like any other sane person.

Eh am I reading it wrong? this is basically how the majority of deliveries are done around here.

(I'm assuming you have an unlocked atleast during the daytime front door and then an internal locked door the other side of the porch).

As far as I am aware the fact that you enter someone else's property without permission constitutes trespassing regardless of loss.

so what do you want to happen? you want money because he opened the door, or for him to be sacked? perhaps both would appeal to your need for retribution. as far as i'm aware your garden if your property too.

Who said I wanted money? I want the knowledge that I can leave my door unlocked while I am at home and not have someone I don't know walking in without permission.

I have no idea where you guys live but here things like this definitely are not a common occurrence.

I also didn't see it as an issue that I would be sitting in my own house with my door unlocked.

stop watching films, you arent american.

did he enter your property, very unlikely. Even if he did, what value did you loss to sue? are you a theme park and charge for entery? uk does not have punitive fees.

as said you have no leg legally or otherwise. why are you even bothered, he did you a favour.

It's not trespassing until they refuse to leave.

He walked into the porch, I saw him through stained glass panelled door. I never reacted to begin with because I assumed it was my partner. When I realised it wasn't I got up to check what was going on. I now have an unsealed parcel with potentially things missing and a driver who scarpered as fast as he could while making no obvious statement that it was him.

I really don't get this thread - its perfectly normal in pretty much every part of the country I've ever lived in for delivery drivers to open the outer most door (if unlocked) when there is a 2 door porch and leave parcels just inside the porch.

Wait, it was just your porch, and you had left in unlocked anyway? What on earth is the problem here (apart from the parcel being open which isnt that great, but might not be the drivers fault)?

I'd be a bit miffed because he didn't knock first, any old scumbag could have seen the parcel sitting in your porch and taken it (if you hadn't of heard him deliver it).

I wouldn't go as far as to reporting him to Amazon though. He's probably just stressed with the shear workload at this time of year and wanted to be on his way as soon as possible.

It's a porch that's part of the main house. It's a lockable door into a porch which then leads directly into the living room.

I can't understand why I am wrong for feeling I can be in said living room with my door unlocked.
