Errr, no. That's blatantly incorrect. Are they seriously trying to get us to beleive that whether you drive a Fiesta 1.25 with drum brakes or a Subaru Impreza WRX STi with vented high performance disc brakes, you'll take an extra 21 feet to stop?

Yeah, it's obvious that the Fiesta will only take 2 or 3 feet rather than 21 ;)

Seriously though, there's so many factors that can affect that figure it makes the statement completely worthless.

Is that the advert with the old banger of a car without ABS brakes on it?

Yes thats the one. The front wheels lock up and the driver makes no attempt to swerve around the child.

On the topic of those adverts, i can kinda see where they are coming from.

a lot of todays cars still dont have ABS and the majority of drivers would just lock up the wheels and not move the wheel in shock more than anything else.

I do agree though that there are exceptions to the general rule :)

Pretty lame, there just trying to make a textbook example to advertise speeding.

Oh and tht advert, its just a general add showing how much it COULD affect your driving, shock tactics.

The message should be 'not using cadance braking kills' then, not 'speed kills' ;)

I love the way the emphasis on road safety has shifted completely from the 'Green Cross Code' to castigating the motorist at every opportunity. I remember ('back in the day') there used to be numerous adverts telling children to treat crossing the road with respect & to do it responsibly - now the motorist is cast as the antichrist even if a child deliberately steps out in front of a car to make it stop...

I was very very angry when i saw this on sky news
there was some guy about 30 saying that ambulance drivers shud only speed in an absolute emergency + he compared them to NORMAL drivers..
they are specailly trained ffs
I bet if it was his son/daughter/wife/mother and the ambo was doing 30, he'd be telling them to speed up

if he's convicted, the >100mph speed indicates an immediate 3 year ban

At the time in the morning that he was caught, should he get convicted, which would just be the final straw for me, and i'd have to move to Australia, he would probably get a 56 day ban and a fine in the region of £200 and no points......it purely depends on the CPS prosecuting, and conditons, he'd only get more if it was dangerous driving!

This Country is really starting to SUCK:mad:

You're right that is disgusting. The cops have gone mad around ours recently, they've doubled the number of unmarked police cars too. Need to get me on of those radar detector things, they've been pulling people for doing nothing (e.g. 32-33 in a 30).

The cops, in large, are pathetic.

Rubbish. They do a great job and generally work hard.

The management, hower, are rubbish. The cops on the ground can only do what they are told.

so... go on then, whom in your familys a copper then ? :p

see.. as disgusted as I am about this.. i have thought about this before I reply..

in my opinion.. its a disgrace its got this far.. id of turned a blind eye if I was the copper when I saw blues n twos.... just think.. that organ could be going to one of your family etc... race against time.. and this larka bout it not being urgent.. erm... if it wasnt urgent.. why was it being sent ? obviosuly it was needed.. and seconds cost lives as we are told on a near daily basis

however.. if he gets 'away' with it.. its almost like saying he is above the law... its a tricky one in my opinion.. but I DO NOT agree with this lark about him being prosecuted.. oh... and for the brake people out there.. I CANT WAIT! until you need the emergency services.. I only hope they abide by the speed limits.. because lets be honest.. speed costs lives doesnt it
