AMD 12.4 beta drivers

Opposite for me sadly :/ Went down to 12.1 and still I have crashed with ATI drivers and BF3 >.< Still trying to hunt down the cause of it

I have the same problem, and it is doing my head in  so no harm and trying these drivers out, i have tried 12.1 - 12.3 game crashe's MP/Single player too with these driver's, finger's X they work for me, as i have yet to try my new GPU i got yesterday from OC :D funny thing is i know it is BF3 that is the problem i run Crysis 1-2 ok no problem's ran bench mark's and pc runs fine but BF3 (DOH)....

I'm the other way round unfortunately. BF3 runs smooth as butter, but Crysis 1 & 2 keep crashing. I got them to work in Catalyst 12.2 and 12.3 but they broke completely in this 12.4 beta driver.

Will these work with the mobility 6850m does anyone know, as current Catalyst drivers i thought did not like switchable graphics which this laptop (Envy 17) has. Any links and help for nice install greatly appreciated. Have posted elsewhere but noticed this live thread. Tks

After coming from an Nvidia SLI set-up over to ATI, I can safely say that ATI's Drivers are not even in the same league as Nvidias. Sleep mode issues, overclocking issues, Zero core issues, Crossfire doesn't work properly when coming out of sleep mode and so on.

Go back to NVidia then.

I got these cards cheap and despite the issues they play games nice, I'm in a position where I know enough to fix a work around and get most of the issues sorted which so far I have.

Out of the box they just don't work correctly, but I knew I would run into problems before jumping onto ATI.

Another reason I moved away from my 480SLI was power and heat and safe to say these are much less power hungry and less heat.

so.....

The thing about AMD drivers is they jut expect you to know what to do. I never would have known CAP's can be used for single cards nor do they say you can install several at once or it doesn't even say how to install drivers i.e fresh install or install over.

Their website is **** and gives limited knowledge and info on everything inexperienced people would need in trying different software. It's a pain in the head at the best of times.

Crysis 2 crashes on me with anything except RC11. For reference I'm still using 11.12 and 11.12 CAP3. Anything else gives **** performance in BF3 MP, which incidentally is what I play 70% of the time.

Anyone any advice on what drivers/CAP's to use for BF3 MP?

What can of issues are you getting in BF3? are you running crossfire?

12.2's cause lock ups, 12.1 and 12.3 give me a LOT of missing textures. I have 2 X 7970's in Crossfire but the biggest problem is GPU usage in MP is all over the place, I'm using a 120hz monitor and when I turn down settings to gain FPS, GPU usage goes down instead of staying at >97% and giving me better FPS.

It's disgraceful at best considering 1000 quid on graphics and it doesn't run properly in the biggest game of the year even though in the driver screen it advertises BF3 and Crossfire

You need to download Realmware BF3 Settings Editor, set the frame rate in your case to 120fps, you can play with vsync on or off, I play with it on and set mine to 60 and its BUTTER smooth. Before this I was getting unplayable mirco stutter on my 7970 crossfire but now it's as smooth as can be.

My gpu is nice and constant depending on how much is on screen, it's usually around 50% but in your case it will be higher, try it I bet it will work for you.

It's not that i have micro stutter or it's not smooth but there's some maps where usage goes down to 65% on both and I get a miserable 50FPS which because it's in Crossfire it feels like about 25-30.

I'll give that program a go and see how it goes although I doubt it will fix the problem, even when I OC the cards, instead of FPS going up usage goes down and it stays at the same FPS. TBH I'd sell them tomorrow if I could and get 680's just for this reason. Waiting 4+ months for software to use 1000 quid of hardware is an f'ing joke IMO!

Thanks for the link.

EDIT: There's no options relating to my problem in there but even if I cap FPS at 120 or 300 it still doesn't force the cards to run at 99%. In Co-op mode and Single Player it's business as usual, it's just the MP.

What CPU and RAM ? It sounds like you are bottle-necked outside of the GPU or your V-Sync won't switch off.

I am running 2 of them also at the moment and I hit the engine frame rate limiter (200fps) in a lot of resolutions.

I play in 1440x900 with low detail for MP, if you don't lock the 200fps frame rate limiter at stock GPU clocks in that setting in MP, there may be a problem elsewhere.

I run with around 50% GPU usage in 7970 crossfire at stock clocks on a 3960k at 200fps on Caspian Borders.

One test you could do, as well as lowering the res to that, is to disable one of the GPUs. If the usage shoots up, this would also point to a non-GPU bottleneck.

After installing the drivers catalyst control centre and afterburner are telling me I'm still runnin 12.3!? Should I have wiped 12.3 off first as I read others on here just over writ it.

Yes mate, you need to run the un-installer, bounce it and then run driver sweeper. Bounce it then install the drivers, bounce it then install the CAPs.

Also confirm you have un-installed any old CAPs prior to starting.

Thanks Besty that worked a treat, the ccc and msi is now registering 12.4 but the only thing I have found Is that afterburner won't let me set the sliders for clocking the card I can move them to the desired numbers then when I apply they all go to zero!! I read a few people have had some Msi problems but with mine it doesn't even come up with the standard clock just 0 on all sliders!.
Hmmm me thinks I may have to download sapphire trixx annoyed though as I love the readouts and just Msi in general.
I have tried the link to get the files to fix Msi but it doesn't work.
