AMD 2xx series how did they get it so wrong?

looking at the benchmark threads in this forum is so depressing for amd fans like me. the 780 is such a better choice than the 290x.

Really? How could anyone be disappointed with the 290x or 290 in benchmarks?

I haven't heard the fan speed myself, but uber mode fan at 55% doesn't seem that loud from what I read here on the forums.

I know but I can't help it, I get really mad when I sense ATI fanboys.

And what might you be pray tell ?

As most people have suggested the aftermarket coolers could change the landscape yet again.

Its such a shame that AMD didn't just have a better stock cooler.

i think unless they go crazy with custom pcb's i cant see the 290 being much cooler with just a msi/gigabyte cooler slapped on top, if one of them huge after market coolers struggle keep it under mid 80's what hope do they have

it seems like they released a water only card lol
crazy value yes but also just crazy :)

80 degrees is fine. The 290x doesn't throttle until 95 so you get it running at 1000mhz almost all the time at 80. And the stock cooler can run it at 80 degrees if you want, its just going to be really loud. The fault is with that cooler more then the chip itself and I'm confident that a better cooler would pretty much fix the 290 and 290x completely. I'm sure if you slapped the 290x cooler on to a 780Ti it would be running at 95 degrees as well.

Hate the term fanboy, just makes me think of 12 year old console owners. Are people really that tied into a brand of gfx card. A bit of banter and a poke with a stick maybe, but the way some people react is bizarre to say the least.

Probably not.
The R290X is factually a harder to cool core.

Yes, yes they are. It's actually unbelievable. I'd love to know the psychology behind it.

Ha, not sure haven't played with FM with the R290, that was on my HD4600.
I get over 400 FPS in Fifa 14 though.

;) 400fps, should cap at 200 mate because your eyes wont see the difference over that much, that's why console games seem slow because 30 or 60fps. The more FPS you have the faster the player runs.

lol i do hope you are right, i did want to buy a card with trueaudio this year after all the hype

think it needs some work on the pcb too tho, hope msi go to town

id have to run that thing at 200mhz lower to get the noise/heat im use to on air, thats prolly 7970 speeds or something *sad face*

Nothing to do with FOV then?
Console games being stuck at 65/70 etc, as for FPS you can't see anymore than your monitor can output - 60hz/60fps 120hz/120fps etc.

Are you double trolling me here or did you genuinely think that was being serious. If it's the latter, shame on you. Then again, some of the nonsense posted in here makes it hard to tell.

Ah ok, I was sensing some trickery afoot lol. Not seen you posting nonsense so I suspected something was amiss.

I don't think Stulid understood the joke.
ATI = Defunct, the last card that was under ATI was the 5XXX brand, best card from ATI is the 5970.

You cant knock AMD for trying, they had to ramp the crap out of their new cards just to keep up with the 780/titan. They might pull ahead for about 30 seconds but they are always going to be 2nd best to nVidia like they are to Intel.

I wouldnt hestitate in buying AMD if I was a bit hard up for cash though.

Awesome well said, such a coherent and structured post.

And you know this how? Please share your ability to predict the future. AMD can and do comprehensively beat these companies for longer than 30s. Athlon 64 FX chips spring to mind and more recently 7970 vs 680.

AMD are probably the only reason that we don't have to pay 50% higher prices for CPUs and GPUs (which is what would happen if Intel and Nvidia did not have any competition). They are hugely important to us enthusiasts and gamers.
