AMD 2xx series how did they get it so wrong?

i was disappointed my 290 wasn't as loud as people said it was so i turned the fan profile up.... (i really want to watercool it so trying to drive the mrs insane with noise)

I think you will find that they are cleaning up with the 290

Gibbo is even making a point of telling everyone that the cards are loud and is still selling loads, what a salesman !!!!

It seems the HardOCP guy was not lying as Guru3D mentioned Nvidia were the ones pushing it,and that Toms Hardware did not actually discover it themselves.

Funny,how they say "performance you can trust" when multiple websites showed problems with cards like the GTX660TI,GTX760 and Geforce Titan.

Does not look like they are flying to me, been on offer all weekend at 309 and so far sold 7... The matrix deal sold hundreds!

Im impartial but with those hairdryers installed as it stands "if" i wanted one, I would just wait for the asus or MSI treatment to be applied, why bother with them at the moment when for a few extra quid soon enough you will get a much better card.
 
I love graphs like that, I mean whose 290X actually drops to 725-850MHz and then oscillates wildly?

It looks like they took the reading from some earthquake and then labelled it "OMG 290X". :D

Nothing surprises me these days. I reckon Nvidia must spend more time testing AMD cards than they do their own. I can't ever remember AMD spending time pointing out flaws with Nvidia cards. :D

AMD spent twice as long, but couldn't find any flaws. #nvidiafanboy :D
 
This card uses the same fan the 7970 stock card used. Which used the same fan the 6990 used. Which used the same fan the 5970 used. Which used the same fan the 4870 X2 used. Which used the same fan the 3870 X2 used.

So it's no noisier than any of those cards, the only one of which was slated for being loud was the 6990 as it spent most of the time at 100%.

The fans are made by Delta and AMD have been using them for years. The cooler they have put on the 290 an 290x are cheap. That means they can pass that lower cost on, and, give you near Titan beating performance from a £309 card.

Any one whining can simply buy the first decent cooler than comes out for £50 (Arctic and hopefully the Zalman one) and would have spent £359 for Titan performance. How much is a Titan again? oh yeah ! £800 +

Even if you absolutely hate AMD there's no denying that they have given Nvidia a serious reality slap and made them price their cards accordingly. And you have AMD to thank for that, even if you bought Nvidia after the price drops.

Take AMD away? that'll be £800 for every single GPU Nvidia could be bothered releasing, which would be few, given they would have no reason to.

Honestly this thread = hilarious.

not after Hardocp was worth quoting right :D

however, if anything is to note if Nvidia themselves push this out to hardtech sites they have a problem with their competition.
 
Overclocker the 3rd party 290 card got here the game will really be on. That day is heating closer all the time and with mantle and true audio giving even more value for money the 290 is shapping up to be a real stunner
