Hi guys i've read that the 9*** series gpus should be out at the same time as bf4 launch. Does anyone know if theres any substance to it or will it still be a whilst yet? Im keen to know as im building a new pc in aug and was going to get a 7970 but if i only have to wait another two months for somthing that i presume will be awsome i may aswell.

Was just browseing the tinterwebs when i found the above, got me pretty excited lol

What better way to sell new and powerfull cards than to release them with the most anticipated title of the year that is supposedly AMD optimized ;) i could be wrong but if i were a sales man thats how i would maximize sales.

All the pundits saying 28nm, a big n hot nVidia-style chip. AMD said a while ago they wanted to go head to head with NV again, competing for best single-GPU, so that fits.

99% sure it won't be 20nm.

Yeah, I think it'll be a 28nm.
But then why wait so long? Those spec, as I've mentioned a gallizon times is the same that was on the Sapphire tech sheet in 2012.

If this is 28nm, all it does is increase AMD's length of time until 20nm (Which by October will be 22 month of 28nm)

It'd be disappointing if it were only the specs in your link though.
It's still up in the air if it's going to be another 28nm chip.

If the specs of the presumed HD9970 are correct (2304 SP / 48 ROPS / 384bit memory interface) it should be interesting to do a direct comparison to the GTX780.

These two will almost be a like for like comparison (clock speeds aside).

Interesting at least from an archictectural comparison point of view.

Does that mean the 9***'s will likely be just supped up 7***'s?

No idea.

Remember the 6XXX from the 5XXX? It'll be similar to that if it's 28nm.

It'd have been interesting if they'd launched it when they were toying with it 14 months ago.

I'd of thought it's gonna be a fairly big upgrade performace wise? Im wondering if its to be the 780s amd counterpart is it going to be cheaper? i guess only time will tell, would be nice if it were cheaper and an actuall 780 killer lol....I can dream :P

Alkalinepro5 i think opposite. Matured production process can keep prices of cards down.
They should just make bigger chips.

Atm i am sure that they will be faster than titan otherwise no point of releasing them at all.

Steamroller is due around the same time too. A lot of the rumours are saying it'll perform about the same as Haswell, but we'll have to wait and see. A new range of GPUs and CPUs and the year's biggest game optimised for them could give AMD a bit of a boost.

Wrong forum, and it's Kaveri APU (Steamroller) due around then, so it'll be 4 cores, which won't be performing the same as Haswell.

Also, blanket statements as "performing same as Haswell" are crap, it'll be similar to now (Except with AMD having a 15%-20% improvement at best), it'll be down to the software and utilization of the cores just like now, except the cores will be pumped up, so where they're weak they'll gain some performance, and where they're strong they'll increase their lead/take a lead, where they're just behind they'll reach parity/take over.

Desktop 8 cores aren't due till 2014, and there's some unsubstantiated rumors that even Kaveri is delayed.

Hardly the wrong forum, I was talking about in combination with the new GPUs and BF4. I haven't kept up to date with the roadmaps, the last I heard the desktop CPUs were due late this year, if that's wrong fine. As for performance, it's all speculation and pointless arguing over.
