AMD 955 BE only 2 cores being used in Windows?

I've just finished my install of a new AMD 955 BE into an M2N68 (temporary until I can get a DDR3 motherboard). I've updated the drivers, and flashed the BIOS to the version where it actually knows what the CPU is.

According to CPU-Z, I only have two cores?

What have I done wrong? I think it's more likely I've cocked up somewhere than anything else.

BIOS version 605.

Check msconfig>BOOT.INI>Advanced Options

Make sure that /NUMPROC isn't set to 2 cores only.

Also check using AMD Overdrive or Everest to make sure that CPU-Z isn't given false readings.

Either borky CPU or mobo/bios.

Try to find advanced clock calibration (ACC) option in BIOS and see if any cores are disabled.

everest is actually showing 4 cores for you?
what about task manager?

Right, I went to MSConfig - went to boot, and clicked advanced options. The number of processors was set to 2 (I was thinking - success!) but that was the max option allowed. It had a check box next to it on whether to disable the choice, which I will try in a sec.

If that doesn't work, I'll have a look for the ACC feature - though I'm pretty sure there isn't one in there unfortunately. Anyway, the BIOS seems to say that it has 4 logical cores and one processor, so I think that's alright.

Thanks for the help so far - keep the suggestions coming!

Oh, and with BIOS versions, does the latest version include all the updates from previous versions too?

Edit: Also, I don't think that CPU-Z being out of date is the problem, task manager only shows two cores as well.

Sometimes flashing your BIOS can cause issues, it's recommended that if your previous one worked fine, then you should keep it and not update it.

I now get 4 cores! It was limited to 2 cores in the boot advanced settings, even though I couldn't select 4, I disabled the limit - and now have 4 cores :D.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Oh and Cool'n'Quiet is enabled - hence the 800MHz clcok speed :p.

I had the same problem ages ago, but with my e2160 showing up as a single core. Reinstalling windows actually fixed it, believe it or not! I was well happy.

Overclocked to 3.7GHz. No issues at all. Am going to have a further play at the weekend - it seems to have plenty more to give!

If CPU-Z says my memory runs at 410MHz -DDR2 - do I double that to get the actual speed? I thought I did, but I'm not sure.

Ah, thought so, thanks for clearing that up!

At nearly 3.9GHz now, just need to do some tests (P95 and IBT) to ensure stability.

Interesting fix. I've been having similar issues with my B50 X4 unlock showing 4 cores in bios & device manager but CPU-Z / msconfig refused to recognise them.

Were the additional cores showing up in device manager before you changed the msconfig setting?

Going to give this a go tonight, trying to avoid reinstalling windows out of pure laziness ;)
