Just found these processors for 160 inc vat brand new , what are these processors like as i have always liked the way amds boot quickly and are good overclockers. I no c2d is probably better so i am asking people with c2d to let me choose my processor with out trashing my thread ;) I want to stay with amd to keep the competition on

What is the highest speed someone has had one of theese up to ?

Are the newest ones launched by amd 65nm or the old 90nm ?

Thanks for your help ;)

they are very fast (faster than a fx64) and are about the same speed as the intel e6600
once overclocking comes into play then its intel which are faster

Thats good to hear, i am thinking of buying one as they are so cheap, do you know what sort of speeds they are capable of if i was to oc it ;)

most max out at 3.2ghz as thier pretty highly clocked as it is

edit these are 90nm cores they havent launched it in 65nm yet

dont know the brisbane cores hit 3ghz regularly in thier 3800+ and 4000+ form
but im guess thier selling these in 90nm form becuase not enough of the quad fx are being sold

What have boot times got to do with anything?

TBH relatively speaking amd are bad clockers compared to C2D.

And 160 quid is offensive for such a slow chip.

One person staying with a company is not gonna help either. You are shooting yourself in the foot.

Be smart and get the fastest hardware for your money,

Some people amaze me sometimes

its not that slow its actually quite fast not as fast as a c2d but still fast

That doesn't make sense.

He can have a faster pc for less money though.

so in essence the chip he wants is slow.

I have to agree with Easy here. I've just bought an e6600 for £160 which when overclocked will be a good deal faster than the 6000+.

On top of that i'd like to point out that i'm not an intel nut. Been AMD since the Duron days! And have just sold my excellent clocking Opteron 165. That thing would do 3ghz under water and as i'd bought it super cheap was a very worthwhile upgrade, However at £160 the C2D route is the only one to recommend.

I assume you'll have or will be buying DDR2 for the AM2 platform you will/would be getting. That could be used on the C2D system so all you have to concern yourself with buying is something like a new e6400 (or a second hand e6600) and a Gigabyte DS3 or Asus P5B. Cheap as chips but with performance that will better ANY current AMD solution. :)

That's just my 2 pence... the choice is yours! ;)

Nice clock on your 6600 by the way! That under water? Also... what voltage?

Hope mine'll get close'ish to that! :p

Sorry to deviate from the thread - go C2D Dan! ;)

Exactly correct, what you playing at Dwbreeze1982 ? lol

In that link it concludes like this -

'The AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ receives ***** certification that confirms it works as advertised and completed all of our tests without failure. This is not a recommendation to buy, however.'

Surely you could use some of that £280 to buy the C2D cpu, mobo and 2 sata dvd writer's then sell the ide drives you have (hdd and opticals) and buy new drives! ;)

Only kidding. That would be a major faff!!! :D

You seem happy in your choice so go for it! For the money i'd save £100 and get a 3800 AM2 and clock it as much as i could but it's your choice!

Let us know how you get on mate!

the am2 boards are going to be compatible with thenew barcelona chips arent th3ey

even they will be slower ..

I'll eat my hat if they are not...

And I will drop my 6400 @ 3.8ghz for one.

But it has to be faster than my current 125 quid chip.

sorry but what the hell is with you and LANGUAGE! 'the new hardware that hasn't been released WILL be slower' what the hell are you on about, as i stated in the R600 thread and ill do it here again, you have absolutely NO idea how barcelona is going to perform, lets just stick with that ok?
