AMD AM2 6000

Don't quote it! :p

Seriously though, C2D is the wisest buy right now if you want the fastest chip available, especially if you're overclocking.
I'd hardly call the AMD's slow, just because they are not as fast as the C2D's, it's not as if they can't run anything anymore.

What have boot times got to do with anything?

TBH relatively speaking amd are bad clockers compared to C2D.

And 160 quid is offensive for such a slow chip.

One person staying with a company is not gonna help either. You are shooting yourself in the foot.

Be smart and get the fastest hardware for your money,

Some people amaze me sometimes
This.

Though maybe I'd change the last line, some people are just idiots.

even they will be slower ..

I'll eat my hat if they are not...

And I will drop my 6400 @ 3.8ghz for one.

But it has to be faster than my current 125 quid chip.

how will the k10/ barcelona be slower than amd current offerings
and the hyper transport that amd uses is bearly being used if thats what your on about

Easyrider makes me laugh sometimes. The top end AMD chip is slow and their unreleased chips will be slower... rofl. :D

At this stage it's a gamble if the barcelona is going to compete with C2D. If the motherboard he is looking at though does the job and will be compatable with the new cpus, then it's not THAT bad a purchase. If it turns out that he can wack in a C2D killer in 6 months then it could even be a wise move. Further, it's not like a 3ghz AMD2 cpu is slow enough to really bottleneck any hardware or software.

I'd still go intel though if I was building from scratch at the moment.

At stock the AM2 X2 6000+ will perform just about on par with a Core 2 6600 as, clock for clock, the Intel chip is about 25% faster than the AMD. They're the same price too

Granted, the Intel chip will clock far better but if you wish to run it at stock than the AMD machine would still be a good choice. A 3GHz dual core AMD chip isn't slow by any means!

But its not as fast as C2D

thats my point

AMD chip needs to scale

i have 2 machines one as per my sig and my spare pc with a e6300 also running at 3 gig and bench for bench the duo core wins everytime even thou it only has 1 gig of ddr2 in it.

i wish last november i had listened and not brought the amd and gone woth intel but you live and learn from your mistakes i think.

If you totally take any possibility of Overclocking out of this decision then you should be buying the AMD X2 6000+. If you plan on overclocking then you have to buy the E6600 it's the only sensible choice.

If I were you I'd wait about 10 days untill the Intel price cut hit the Etailors as you will see large price drops on the E6600. If you look OCUK have it on this week only, probably trying to shift some excess stock so they can take maxium advantage of the Intel rebates on current unsold stock :)

You shuld see the E6600 at the rather tasty price of £129 inc. VAT maybe you'll have to spend a little more on a motherboard but you will have a faster system.

£for£ as it stands now the AMD chip will be faster than the comparable priced intel part as standard.

Regardless of what ratings they are for the same money AMD at the moment supply a faster standard CPU for your money.

Made sure I quoted it so it stayed there for the Dons to see, don't want it all edited out by the time they find it.
As much as i don't agree with Easy on this one that was a bit of a sly sucky thing to do wasn't it.

"please sir, he said something wrong and I've quoted it just in case he corrects himself so i can get him in trouble..."

are you sure 129inc. vat? that is a bit low??

160-170 is more reasonalbe.

if they drop to 129 then i will buy two.

@Dwbreeze1982

dont go amd, unless you dont want to upgrade your whole system. listen to others, go intel if you can. I gave up waiting for AMD's new chips they took tooooooo long.
