What’s FreeSync2? Well, it’s not FreeSync1 successor, in fact it has very little to do with FreeSync. FreeSync 2 is simply a new technology that will automatically switch your monitor into HDR mode, and that’s pretty much it.

So why call it "Freesync" 2 and confuse consumers further if its very little to do with Freesync1 and doesnt do what Freesync 1 does unless they want to con consumers further into thinking it does something it doesnt do?

AMD new tagline Makes No Sense

or bad reporting ?

Freesync HDR would have been a better name, unless there is more underlying changes to improve Freesync overall. And HDR is just one of the things and the teaser they are giving.

No because we already have HDR support. The naming is abit strange tbh best waiting for a better write up or one of AMD youtube videos.

From what i gather from the pictures, it appears to shunt all of the Tone mapping to the GPU end of the connection. Essentially offloading all processing monitor side to reduce cost and latency.

Certification that monitor is compliant with whatever Freesync2 standard entails I guess, so it can be plastered on the box. Bit out of left field. I am sure their marketing folks love it.

Probably called it free sync two because current monitors with free sync dont support hdr so regardless its different so next batches of free sync monitors with hdr are going to have a different version of freesync to the original. Kinda like software development
Original 1.0
Next iteration
2.0

Get ready for G-Sync 2 any minute now. LOL :p

As someone else put it above...better to call it Freesync HDR. :)

Obviously Freesync 2 was better from Marketing standpoint and box art...if a bit misleading. I suppose it is an advance on Freesync monitor Tech as the original doesnt support HDR and an advance on 1 is...well 2 :D
