This really. I think some would be up in arms regardless of the branding.
Yes a few are....I wonder what make cards they have

Like I said...G-Sync 2 imminent

AMD went with Freesync 2...as it's 1 more (One for all you Spinal Tap fans

From what i gather from the pictures, it appears to shunt all of the Tone mapping to the GPU end of the connection. Essentially offloading all processing monitor side to reduce cost and latency.
Hmdi freesync and compatibility with HDR says to me it might be becoming available on TV's soon no?
What’s FreeSync2? Well, it’s not FreeSync1 successor, in fact it has very little to do with FreeSync. FreeSync 2 is simply a new technology that will automatically switch your monitor into HDR mode, and that’s pretty much it.
Get ready for G-Sync 2 any minute now. LOL
As someone else put it above...better to call it Freesync HDR.
Obviously Freesync 2 was better from Marketing standpoint and box art...if a bit misleading. I suppose it is an advance on Freesync monitor Tech as the original doesnt support HDR and an advance on 1 is...well 2![]()
I think gsync two is already out can't remember where i saw it but i swear i saw it on the specs of Dell's website but its not saying it now. Pcper has a article on it and calls it G-Sync Gen 2. The Only difference is it supports HDMI 1.4 as well as displayport 1.2

Anyway long story short turns out it is a typo on Dells part but there is such a think called Gsync 2

Before this turns into A Lot Of Angry People On The Internet, let me just make sure I have this right: Freesync (1) does not support HDR. Freesync 2 does. So it's a new iteration, is that right?
AMD did suggest it was coming to TVs is some significant way a few months back. CES is just around the corner, so if it's happening then we'll know soon enough.
Pretty niche demand for it I'm sure, but I'd sacrifice a goat to have freesync on my TV.
If that is the case, then the name makes sense. If it is completely separate to FreeSync then the name is stupid.
This will definitely make me delay upgrading my monitor. 144 Hz, 1440p, IPS, FreeSync (2) and HDR...yes please!
I don't get this.
My TV already switches to HDR mode when a HDR signal is detected, including when you start up Shadow Warrior 2 which supports HDR on PC.
If they have to alter the Freesync spec to use HDR then yes I would agree. However, I do not know if the Freesync bit has to be tweaked at all for HDR to work with Freesync mode. I was under the impression that the monitor was either HDR compatible or not...regardless of variable refresh mode. Maybe it isnt...therefore calling it Freesync 2 would be okay.
A bit of a mute point now though as it has been said that it was a typo by Dell.

The slides suggest to me that it's more about reducing input lag (and possibly bandwidth requirements) than anything else.
Game Consoles all run AMD and they all run on TV's.
ah... i think you just hit the nail on the head, its all the same package, so if a screen vendor wants to support HDR they will also support Free-Sync.Thinking about it though, that means these HDR monitors, in theory if they declare FS2 support, should support actual FreeSync? Meaning AMD really wants to ensure majority of these HDR monitors should also support FreeSync.
So it might be possible to buy a freesync 2 monitor and it actually wont be able to do what freesync does?
Silly AMD!
