AMD Announces FreeSync 2

It's everything to do with the product, it's called covering your ass-so there is no law suits in the possibility of disapointed investors.

It's not rocket science.:p

Maybe you should stop hating on AMD and maybe ask Nvidia why they won't commit to the standard (adaptive sync) that they are part of with VESA?

Because it's a conflict of interest. nVidia has their own Adaptive Refresh Rate technology in G-SYNC. You don't need to ask them why, it's obvious.

Way to follow a conversation and completely miss the point. Well done.

AthlonXP1800 hates everything AMD and worships Nvidia. He was complaining in the post that I quoted about why don't companies get together and make an open standard like adaptive sync, not realising that they have come together under VESA and released that standard. It's just that Nvidia don't support that standard despite been on the board of directors of VESA.

MY question wasn't directed at Nvidia. I was telling him to go complain to Nvidia.

No not all GCN GPU has have the hardware to output HDR signals.

I think only Polaris GPUs has HDMI 2.0a and DisplayPort 1.4 support to output HDR signal.

Not disputing the hardware, but I'm pretty sure in one of the official AMD videos I saw recently they said all existing AMD cards would be able to use Free Sync 2 via a software driver which they will release once the monitors are available.

Samsung has just announced its beyond amazing new CRG9 monitor, but don't let the simple name distract you: this monitor is one of the best gaming monitors ever unveiled and will blow most people, including display enthusiasts like me away. The new Samsung CRG9 rolls out with a native 5K resolution so we're talking about a huge 5120 x 1440 resolution at a buttery smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The native 5K resolution equates to exactly two 2560 x 1440 displays side-by-side, with AMD coming in and deploying its FreeSync 2 technology inside of the new Samsung CRG9 gaming display.

It also has a 1000 nits peak brightness, they also talk about 'outstanding local dimming' in their press release so if it has a FALD backlight like the GSync HDR monitors that would be amazing. These are very high end features and would make it a truly high end screen.

I am an Nvidia user since Riva128, but even I would say categorically that AMD won with FreeSync - quick look on available monitors (nevermind price) shows it, Nvidia better support it via HDMI 2.1 (at the very least, better via DisplayPort just like AMD does now).

As much as I like that monitor, it's wrong to call it a native 5K.

Agreed. Pretty sure that is not how it works. This is just two 1440p monitors stitched together. It is still 1440p, as image quality or pixel density is not any better. Not knocking it by the way, the specs look really good. Might even temp me if prices right if I am honest :)

Just need amd to bring out a card that can drive it at that refresh rate with all the bells and whistles and I'd happily jump ship, until then hopefully someone will do a g sync version with the same or a similar panel.
