Serious question, is a E6300 at stock twice as fast as a X2 3800+ @ stock?!

if you already have those to hand then thats a different matter, youl still need to buy new ram though as the conroe setup only takes DDR2 i think, although someone may be able to clarify that for me ??

im also highly confused as to why you didnt mention you had those bits to begin with... youd of saved an awful lot of arguing.

Doesn't the ASrock board support both types of ram? You'd need to google it or ask someone on here to confirm.

No but the max possible overclock on the 6300 is easely faster as a 3800x2 oced to the max...
Even seen some 6200 at 3.8 ghz prime stable, 4ghz benchable, so a lot faster...
I doubt the amd will overclok over 60 %, while the core 2 duo does 100% at least....

If you dont want to overclock, then thats a mistery for me...
 
would i need anything else to overclock besides a nice fan, because i would overclock if it wudnt cost me much more
 
If you already have 1GB of DDR then I would suggest looking at an X2 4200 939 and motherboard. The savings from not needing new RAM will allow you to get a far better graphics card. This chip will also overclock quite well and you'l have a system that will be good for new games for a year or two.

Yes I know this, thats why I asked at stock.

If not overclocking (aimed at the op) then the X2 3800+ i still easily fast enough for what you want it for.

As for conroe support with DDR ram, yes this is possible with the asrock dual vsata however you will be limited heavily by the overclocking ability of this board. (thus negating any real benefit to going C2D) - unless you wait like me for the E4300 series.
