So does this mean no crossfire for conroe?

If the buyout went ahead, with ATI's core logic technology behind them, it would be silly for AMD to ignore the Intel chipset and high end graphics markets, so I guess they would still make a conroe crossfire solution.

Personally I see buying ATI as one of the best things AMD could do right now. It would give them an edge over Intel and for the first time ever they could do something that Intel has so far failed at. With AMD's CPU know-how and ATI's core logic and graphics technologies they could create something pretty special. In theory anyway.

Yeah, but the thing that's putting me off the idea is what nvidia will do. They might seem obliged to team up with intel, which could possibley then make it that if you want ati, you have to get amd etc.

But if nvidia stay neutral, it would be a perfect scenario (for us AMD fanboys anyway :p )

but would this mean that ati cards will be cooler ? and use less power in the future. Iprefer ati tp nvidia but i go with nvidia because of power consumtion.

But surely conroe is the opposite to your argument there? As they are now going to be the coolest cpu's around...
