HI there

AMD's latest flagship processor and no doubt the last from its 90nm range is the new AMD 6400 Black Edition. This CPU I believe is the highest current clock speed CPU available making AMD king in the current MHz states.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6400+ Black Edition 3.20GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail
CP-197-AM_400.jpg

The new AMD Black Edition is a gamers and overclockers dream. This 6400 Edition is the only AMD X2 processor to feature 2x2MB L2 Cache for greatly improved performance along with a clock speed of 3200MHz making this processing the fastest clock speed processor in the world. Also supplied multiplier unlocked makes it an overclockers dream allowing for maximum overclock potential. These CPU's are limited in numbers and hence if you want one be sure to get in quick.

- This product is not supplied with a heatsink & fan.
- Supplied with Full PC DVD Game Call of Juarez with all orders placed 13th July 2007 and after whist stock last.

Price: £139.99 +VAT (£164.49 inc VAT)

Is this CPU the same Core Architect as the rest of AMD CPUs?

Yeah it is.

Think it may have an unlocked multi not sure though.

Hmmm not good value really especially as it states RETAIL then goes on to say - This product is not supplied with a heatsink & fan.

Seems AMD are just trying to get max price for a pre overclocked cpu

Hi there

The product highlights are its 3200MHz clock speed and 2x2MB cache. I believe that puts it around Conroe E6850 performance.

Its bad points are its supplied with no heatsink.
It outputs 125W of heat, so needs a good cooler.
Its a tad over-priced, but I am working with AMD to see if we can get them to lower the price.

Is this definitely 2 x 2mb L2 Cache? If it were surely the 6400+ is based on a different core to all other X2's?

Regardless, nice to see how AMD's 90nm yields have matured.

Im pretty sure it isnt, i dont think AMD would just do this for one CPU to be honest.

If it is the same Core to the other AM2s that would mean this is only Equal to the Performance of a Core 2 Duo E6750 (2.6GHZ).

I'm sure it's 2 x 1mb L2 cache, product description wrong?
I think it's for the 1337 KR3W so they can own a "Black Edition" meanwhile, the good money* is on the 6000 for £100 and clocking it to the same levels or higher...

*If you're on AM2

A tad. :D

And it doesnt come with a heatsink.

Anyone found any comparision of this and the 6000+ ?

What does "Black Edition" signify? The box being black or something?

Appears to be a limited edition run. Aside that it seems to have an unlocked multiplier like the FX's did.

LOL you wish!

6850 has a single 4mb shared die, lower clokc, lower heat, lower volts, better mfg, faster and cleaner arcutercter!

But you have to say AMD arent doing that bad with a 3-4year old design. Especially when the fx52 the first "extreme" style processor was only running at 2.2ghz

Most people seem to forget that AMD CPUs are priced competitively against C2D and pound for pound are just as pretty much as good at stock performance on average.

C2D only truely wins if you're overclocking.
