AMD Bulldozer Finally!

The i7-2700K is rumoured to be out end of this month, but it's just a tiny speed bump (+100MHz). SB-E is due out end of the year/Q1 next year on a new socket and Ivy Bridge is something like Q2 next year on lga1155.

quad channel mem, hexcores, you'd have to be clinically insane to splash out on a quad core SB-e system though, you'd be paying more for mobo, more for the chip, for basically the same performance.

I can see it quite easily being £150-200 more for a "system" with a quad core SB-e, than a 2600k system, with both being all but identical in performance.

Haswell should be when Intel finally put 6 or 8 cores into "midrange" systems, so 2600k prices for a hex or octo core, while right now or with SB-e a hexcore will cost you upwards of £500.
 
I've just read an article on Toms Hardware, regarding SB-E.
In fairness, due to the horrendous cost involved, for most of us, the SB-E just isn't an option. The 2600k, is plenty good enough, at this point and offers decent (not great) value for money.

If you have money to spend, then by all means SB-E will be an option, but I doubt most of us will be willing to spend so much money on such a small performance increment (over a 2600k).

Ivy Bridge is the next (financially) realistic upgrade, for most members of the public and that won't be out for quite a while yet.

In any case the 2500k and 2600k CPUs are great CPUs and are available now.

i wonder what kind of improvements piledriver and steamroller (or whatever crappy name next gen BD is called, i forget) will bring. they can't increase the clock speed much higher than it is so IPC will be the key. does anyone know what is currently limiting BD's IPC? (i know this may be a tough question to ask before it's even been released). could it be insufficient cache? etc etc
 
Not checked this thread in a while so would anyone be so kind as to give me a recap on what's been happening over the last few weeks with BD?
