AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC Driver for Windows available for download

I actually found these drives fixed some issues i was having with crashes. I am running two 290s. Seems stable now for me, at least.

Don't be shy then. :)

I will post it in the morning when I get in from work. It is quite a bit faster than the Titans.:D

As to the problems I am having with the drivers, I have decided to write it off to the monitor being an older design and basically crap. The problem with 4K is it is a new thing with lots of teething problems. There is also a lack of user experience where 4K is so new. The more people highlight and discuss the problems the better. I would never recommend a MST 4K monitor to anyone after the problems I have had.

Looking forward to it. :D

4K is 290 territory, providing they don't run out of vram.

Sorry to hear about the monitor problems. Seems a shame as you got a expensive model too. What are you going to do about it?

I will be keeping the monitor, I can get 60htz working with a bit of messing around when I boot up. Fortunately once it is up and running there are no problems in normal use.

Unfortunately my mum made doing a DSR impossible when she saw the packaging it came in and dicided it was rubbish and ripped it up and bined it.:D

I really think we should have a 4K sticky thread that people can post in with all things graphics related that people have problems with from connectors to drivers to graphics and vram or anything else related. It may even help Gibbo shift more gear.

This would be a great idea!!

Realistically multiple r9 290 territory if you want playable frame rates :)

I solved my Eyefinity issues - by just going back to 14.4.

I knew going back to Amd I'd spend about as much time enjoying playing games as I did trying to get things working.

Their drivers are still pretty pants, all things considered. Sure, performance gains are good, but they usually end up breaking one thing when they fix another.

Most of the 14 branch have their own little quirks. Just be sure to report them so the diehards can't criticise you for it

Where are you seeing less stuttering and on what setup please.

To give this a context then; Unigine Valley (max details, no AA) and Thief benchmark (FXAA only, max details) specifically, so far. Monitor is UHD@60Hz, twin 7990 @stock clocks & 1110mV, [email protected], 2 x 8GB 2000MHz ram, Win 8.1 Ultimate 64 bit.

Note I don't use MSAA for my own purposes because the aliasing artefacts that present in practice are not apparent to me unless I pause the game and lean into the monitor (age related ;) ?) .

And, if what MSI Afterburner is reporting in Unigine Valley as VRAM usage is accurate - 4.9GB - , I am leaning towards the opinion that upwards of 5GB per GPU will be necessary for smooth running of UHD resolutions going forwards.

A friend who I built a system for is having major BF4 problems. He said it is running at 15 fps with CF 7950s but all the other bench tests are giving good frames. Anyone else had this issue or know what he has to do please?

Another update, when he tries to install the latest drivers (I told him to use DDU), he is telling me it BSOD's. Anyone come across this before?

Hi Gregster,

Is he using W7 or W8?

If W7 did he ever try and use the ATIuninstall tool? If he did tis will have borked his W7 installation requiring a OS reinstall. It depends on ATI uninstall version he used, I haven't used it since and they may have released a working version now.

One way to tell (well for me) was can he turn his firewall on and off or is it greyed out?

If he is on W8 then....dunno. I'd prolly go for an OS reinstall anyway - rids so many hidden problems and in the long run quicker and less head scratching.

Best

Windows 7. He has a Windows 8 key and I have told him to wipe and restart but he would rather not for now.

He used Display Driver Uninstaller as per my instructions but now just BSOD all the time on installing.

OK - so if he's ever used any of the AMD uninstallers then this could be the culprit. Done it myself. There are work arounds in the registry I found but successes were mixed bags. And the time it took to search for these workarounds I could have reinstalled OS.

Whilst mine didn't BSOD, mine locked up, would never install drivers without errors or get stuck on a black screen loop where the screen goes blank momentarily during the driver install.

W8 is quicker to install than W7 using the bootable USB method I guess.

What about turning core parking off?

(edit) DDU - so does he manage to run through the DDU process OK? He's not getting stuck on going into safe mode is he? DDU wont fix the problem if he's used any AMD uninstaller previously or a version that borked W7. Feel his pain.
