Probably gone a bit over the top with this one hahah, but never mind, it was fun writing it
This piece is called "Money Talks".
The giraffe towered over the assembly; a diminutive girl clung affectionately to its side,
Its fur had long since faded, it had only one surviving eye,
But Angelica didn't care, she hugged and squeezed with pride,
For today was "show and tell", a long-held tradition at Sky Dale High.
"Thank you, Angelica." said Ms. Ruby, "That was... a most informative show."
Detaching herself from the animal, she dragged it back to her desk by the neck,
She sat on the saddle and patted its head, her smile-dimpled face aglow,
"You're so cute." she whispered into the giraffe's ear, kissing its cheek with a peck.
Ms. Ruby's gaze swept across the classroom, her index finger swirling,
I sighed; I had nothing prepared, my mood vexed,
I hunkered down into my chair, my mind churning,
The finger stopped - it found its mark: "Percy, you're next!"
I sighed once again, grudgingly making my way to the front of the class,
I faced my peers, confronted by a sea of expectant eyes,
Even the accursed giraffe stared mockingly through its single bead of glass,
I needed a miracle, or this would surely be my demise.
I took a deep breath, and pulled the item out of my pants,
Angelica's hand immediately shot out pointing, "What's that thing supposed to be?"
"Quiet, Angelica!" Ms. Ruby scolded. "Give young Percy a chance."
"Umm..." I hesitated, quickly scanning the object's label for clues, "It's a...VTX3D?"
The children looked at one another, confusion en masse,
"It's an air conditioner!" shouted Wayne,
"No! They're giant robot goggles!" proclaimed Thomas,
"Enough!" Ms. Ruby interjected. "Percy, please explain."
Never touch my brother's computing gadgets, that was the golden rule,
He gets them from some online retailer, Overclockers I think?
I snatched it from his room as I rushed out to school,
I hoped he wouldn't mind, under these circumstances I'm on the brink.
"It's an ATI Radeon HD 6870 X2 Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card."; I hoped that would suffice,
The classroom fell quiet, unsure of what I'd just said,
I clarified, "Umm, it makes video games look pretty and nice."
My classmates gawked, blinking bemusedly; I may as well drop dead.
DING! DING! DING! the school bell chimed, not a moment too soon,
The classroom cheered, as bodies scrambled out the door,
The school day was over, as announced by the noisy boon,
I sighed in relief; this ordeal had been a chore!
"I'm sorry you couldn't finish your 'show and tell'," said Ms. Ruby, "time sure goes quick!"
Laying an outstretched hand on my shoulder, she vowed "Don't fret, you can resume tomorrow morning, don't be late!"
Nodding at her reassuring words, I contemplated reporting in sick,
But the fact was slowly dawning, I could not escape my fate.
Upon exiting the building, my brother pulled over in his car,
Avoiding eye contact I climbed into the front seat, hoping he wouldn't notice the huge trouser bulge,
"So what did you do today then?" he enquired as he rummaged through a sweet jar,
My heart started to race, for this information I could not divulge.
The car set off; mental gears grinded as I concocted a reply for Jack,
I was just about to answer, when the car screeched to a halt before a cat,
My body lunged forward, and that's when I heard the crack,
Half a VTX3D fell out my trouser pocket and landed on my brother's floor mat!
My heart exploded, my life as I knew it had ended,
"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!" my brother roared, his face blood red,
"You take my stuff without permission...and then break it?! This can't be mended!!"
I trembled with fear, I'd never seen him so mad; He pointed: "You're dead!"
"I'm really really sorry!" I squirmed, "I'll buy you a new one, I swear on my life!",
"Do you know how much these things cost?!" Jack fumed, "You'll never afford one!",
"I promise I'll save up - I have a part time job"; I prayed my plea was enough to diffuse the strife,
A tense silence followed as Jack considered my proposition, his rage subsiding, as he finally said "Done!"
Sweet relief washed over me, my life remained intact!
I uttered not a word as we journeyed home, lest the beast rear its vicious head,
Mum and dad greeted us at the door, oblivious to our pact,
Without hesitation I raced inside the house up to my room, collapsing onto the bed.
Boy, it sure feels good to be alive!
