AMD confirm RX 7900 vapour chamber problems

It's odd that it's not a universal issue. It only affects XTX cards and even then not all of them. Seems like either a bad batch (or batches) with a manufacturing defect, or perhaps a specific Chinese factory doing something not to spec to save money. It'd be interesting to know which company is actually manufacturing the cooler. I think Foxconn do Nvidia's FE coolers.

It could just as well be one specific machine on production line having a fault or wrong setting. Knowing what it is and even just one SN affected they can very quickly narrow it down, as this information usually contains details like which factory, which line and which machine produced that specific product, on what date etc. Then check machine and you might have a culprit which is easy to correct, along with exact number of affected cards and SNs of these etc.

I got my mate to check his MBA 7900xtx today and it has the problem. We were playing War thunder and to start with the Juction was looking good at around 80oc then out of no where it spiked to 110 and stayed there. He is now in contact with OCUK about a replacement. He doesn't know much about GPU's in general so most likely would have kept the card until it failed or needed replaced. I would be willing to bet there is plenty out there that are in the same boat.

Let me know how that goes. I submitted a ticket 3 days ago, and no response yet...

Ring them up. I RMAd my red devil 6900xt today, quick phone call and he emailed over RMA stuff and DPD already have the package. Also if you call they'll note down your description of any problem and what you've tried.

That AMD guy in the video mentions that they have a "fix". Are they suggesting there's a way to fix the faulty cards or are they just saying we'll send you a new card?

I'm guessing a new card as it sounds like they know which batches are impacted so they can dish out from a known good supply. No doubt they'll then rip off the cooler from the returned cards and replace those with a good one and resell? Not sure. But yeah I think it is new card.

Nvidia plant working on the production line..... :D

guru3d just ran an article saying that AMD have run out of stock for replacments at the moment.

"We understand that you want to trade in your RX 7900 XTX. It is important that you know that currently we cannot change your graphics card, since we do not have stock available in our warehouses. We can start the process as soon as the stock is renewed. But we currently don't have an estimated restock date. If you prefer a refund, we can start the process right away and send you the label to send us the graphics card. If you wish to wait for an RMA, please provide the following information:

– Maximum temperature and current temperature of the GPU
– How long does it take to reach that temperature?
– What application (game/benchmark/stress test) were you using when you noticed the temperature increase?"
