Just recently got an AMD card in April and really enjoying the performance- massive upgrade over my 60ti. Managed to OC it and get a better timespy score than stock 4080 for 50% less price so happy with that!

Wanted to gauge thoughts as to whether we might think driver updates (aka fine wine) might get another 10-15% out of the 7900xt to beat the 4080 at raster?

I saw a post with some data that showed that 6000 series improving but up to 10%.

I know I'm not the only one long tired of the trope. Please stop with the AMD fine wine stuff.

You buy based on being agreeable to the price/performance on the day. The expectation of some possible future jump in performance is just setting yourself up for disappointment (regardless whether you're doing it before or after purchase).

Not with AMD cards all mine have got better with ageing driver optimisation.

Given that amd is still frequently releasing new drivers to try and fix the high power draw, I would not be surprised if there was additional untapped performance due to driver issues they haven't figured out how to fix yet

Yes perhaps that's not their current focus. Let's hope there is more potential as uplift over 6000 is a bit disappointingly.

Could be like the 5700 XT vs 1080 Ti. The Radeon was initially slightly worse in performance, but a couple of years later had slightly overtaken the GeForce. The 1080 Ti was an older card though, whereas the 4080 and 7900 XT are same gen.

Even now with a bit of overclocking you can gain 6-7% performance at the cost of power draw to almost hit the stock performance of a 4080 at rasterisation.

Hoping fine wine brings it to match the 4080 without overclocking.

Fair play to Nvidia they seem to get the most out of there drivers from day one which I think is amazing. AMD seem to take years to get the best out of the Hardware. The bonus being AMD users performance getting better over time.
