It isn't really though. Nvidia release drivers with performance improvements for newer games and bug fixes, so is that poor initial driver support too? The AMD Fine Wine stuff is just a bit of a laugh as we AMD gamers have to hold on to these small wins. lol. If AMD has poor driver support then every new release from Nvidia that has a performance uplift can be viewed the same. Gaining extra performane as a product matures through its lifetime is just how software development goes.

Yes, if a new driver releases and boosts performance in older games it is viewed as poor previous support imo

New games, no because those games weren't out before so it wouldn't be possible to make performance profiles for them. Gaining extra performance in old games leaves you wondering why it couldn't have performed like that back when you played it... It's annoying when you complete a game which had bugs or low performance, then afterwards a driver fix comes out. If AMD can perform 20% better in those games now they could have back in the day but everybody missed out thanks to poor drivers.

I know the fine wine stuff is all a bit of fun, but if I owned the card in question it would bug me

They both have a launch day performance delta, but AMD starts on 75% and NV on 95% and both hit 100% over 2/3 years leaving bigger potential gains for AMD.

I'd say AMD launches with a hangover and then gets drunk all over again.

I certainly hope they can bridge the gap for the XT and XTX in terms of relative performance to the 4080.

Remnant 2 doesn't have Lumen enabled yet though.

Surely Lumen won't tank frame rate that much? Would hope not in terms of Remnant 2, I'd be down to 60fps at 4k dlss 3 frame gen I expect then

Some weird funky CPU bottleneck is happening on the AMD set up (look at the CPU usage and power draw)

It's looks more like a PC setup issue than the 7900XTX specifically (though it can be part of the issue), and the scenes that are being rendered are not 100% identical (or close to it).

The entire phenomenon being given a special name and status is cringe but no, you didn't miss out.

If you bought a card back in the day you paid - logically - what you considered a fair price for the performance on that day.

If it was performing "20% better" the price wouldn't have been the same, it would have been pumped up to compete with whatever equivalent competitor was "20%" better at that time.

Fine wine is just a nice brucey bonus with AMD cards. I’m hoping the XT will match the 4080 in raster before too long lol

Cpu usage is low because GPU usage is low

Watch the video for much of the video the 7900xtx runs at 100% load yet the framerate is 30% of the 4090
