AMD FX-4170 Gaming build, Nvida GPU, Watercooling

interesting. I would ask you why you think other people cant 'respect' that somebody might make a poor decision that isnt based on logic or facts, without having to agree with it, but I believe this thread has already been pulled far enough off topic. Suffice to say your view of other people in this thread is somewhat skewed, and i can't help but think it has something to do with your owning a bulldozer. Perhaps another thread should be started to discussion these issues more fully? After all, the op isnt listen to anybody trying to make him see sense (just about anybody but yourself) so it seems futile to continue in this one.

I am actually reading every comment, just don't see the point in having more disputes.

I am now focused on fine tuning my build and just seeing what I can get out of it.

Some very decent rig parts there oliver. I would be interested to know how you get on with temps with the h80. I bought an antec 620 and for the fx4170 it stays well within temps up to around 4.5 I find under prime 95 stress. The antec was no good whatsoever with the fx8120 though when overclocked as the 8120 is a different beast to the fx4170 in real use. For my fx8120 I now use a corsair h100 and under full load its more than enough even at my oc of 4.6. I have four x 120mm fans in push pull config though and a 220mm side panel fan on my case so have no heat issues whatsoever.

Everything up to Max!

55fps average and 44fps probably when the fireworks went off at the end I would say is good :)

First time I have turned Global Illumination on, it did not pre-select it when selecting ultra so I must have missed it before.

Sorry it took so long, Steam wouldn't sign in for over an hour. Even after restarts. Done a windows update and it worked oddly.

No clue as to why the second picture is so big, imgur messed up my upload and saved pic 1 twice, just one with pic 2 thumbnail, so i had to reupload pic 2 but its not in the album as i posted as guest.

Look at thumbnails on the right.

What like asking what cooler he needs for a massive overclock to make his PC greener? :D

What? Are you referring to something arekgreenman done?

I am smart enough to know that no matter what cooler you use it will not reduce the power used by your CPU. Though saying that if you used a crap one then it would thermal throttle causing it to down-clock and use less power, but that is obviously not a suitable answer to that question.

For someone that stupid you could just tell them to have no cooler so it burns out and dies so it will no longer use any power, but again not a suitable answer.

On a side note, I am now looking in to buying a medium/large monitor as using the HD TV as a temp monitor is already doing my head in. Great for gaming due to the size, but terrible for reading anything, constantly zooming in to pages.

Budget of £160. at least 1920x1080, no built in speakers, Wall mountable as it will be going on a stand with another monitor of the same model in the future.

I have just found out that a member of the family has been accepted for a mortgage so they will be moving out, allowing me and my girlfriend to use there room as a bedroom and knock a hole in the wall to put a door into ours, then use ours as a living room with a large corner desk with multiple monitor setup. We already have a Sofa in our bedroom and a large tv, so moving the double bed out will mean my space for a desk almost triples.

I will be getting the desk custom made with underhanging channels for cable management.

Hopefully going to be making a 3D Model of our room tonight/tomorrow to give everyone an idea. I will also model all furniture in the room.

Thanks in advance.

And yes for once I am going completely on peoples opinions. I haven't bought a monitor and then asked, I haven't even looked for a monitor.

Requirements:
- 1920x1080 or above.
- Wall Mountable.
- Black Gloss/Matt finish.
- Fairly high contrast ratio.
- 5-2ms response time.
- DVI Input (obviously)

Impress me!

I think you will struggle to find a 1940x1080 screen. However, I can find you a 1920x1080 screen. :p

Anything that has a VESA mount should be wall mountable IIRC.

Ah yes thanks for the correction. I was just trying to remember from memory, will edit my post :)

Cheers!

The ViewSonic VX2336s-LED can be had for under £150 and gets great reviews. It uses an IPS panel. Alternatively, have a look at the Dell U2312HM which is around £180 to £190 AFAIK.

ViewSonic VX2336s-LED has a 14ms response time. Thanks for the quick reply though :)

The Dell one looks good, response time slightly higher then what I want but i'm sure it doesn't matter that much for the sake of 3ms. Is 23Inch considered large? (Dirty minded people keep your mouth shut...)

I could easily stretch to £200, just would prefer £160.

You still could have got a better system with nice ssd's and a monitor for less then your spending now lol...... XD way to go Oliver.

You sure you dont work for Labour? that kind of bad spending woah.

Aha no. I'm hoping to keep this thread going to ask for advise on future buys, e.g. Desk, Screen Mounts, Keyboard Mouse, Audio Equipment.

I am also relying on you guys to give me ideas when designing my desk. Installing Solidworks2012 Tonight. I will pop up a few ideas then will just need improvements.

Thanks so far!

can we have some "keep ollies thread going" tshirts made please, maybe AMD can sponser it as some pr/marketing campaign :D

Well I need advice with other purchases, like monitors and keyboard and mouse, Speakers, Desk materials, maybe printer, custom watercooling loop, etc..

If you would prefer me to create a new thread for each item and clutter up the Hardware Forum then sure, or I will keep this thread going as its a lot easier to centralize everything I'm asking for.

Did you even read the last page or 2 before posting that comment?

Will Piledriver work with your AM3+ board?

Really hope it's a good cpu series so you have room to upgrade.

Yes, Its based on Piledriver Cores and will be socket AM3+. I am hoping for large improvement over Bulldozer. I know Bulldozer didnt live up to expectations but I am hoping AMD will fix that with Piledriver, making it what Bulldozer should have been, if not give it a year and I'll consider Intel :)

Come on guys :)

Still looking for a monitor fitting specs below;

Requirements:
- 1920x1080 or above.
- Wall Mountable.
- Black Gloss/Matt finish.
- Fairly high contrast ratio.
- 5-2ms response time.
- DVI Input (obviously)

Thanks

This is the worst value for money spec I have seen in a while, my PC cost less a year ago when I bought it. (spec as in sig but without 2TB HDD) I feel sorry for you having wasted so much money. Ask the people of the forums next time! But as long as it does what you want it to do and it looks the business then it's not all bad. Enjoy it! :p

I could have got it for £675 if I used stock cooler (-£80), a cheaper case (-£60), stock fans (-£30) and cheaper motherboard (-£60~£80)

So this spec for £675 isn't too bad, people seem to think that as its £920 it could be much better, I agree yes, but with cheap Mobo, a terrible case, higher CPU temps and noisy as heck fans i'm glad I spent the extra £245.

If I had a £400 case people would see FX-4170 and GTX 560ti build @ £1300 people would comment saying I could have better for less. But of course that means downgrading on quality of some parts, having things not fit my colour scheme, PC being noisy, which matters a lot now with it sat on my desk next to me almost silent.

Generally I am happy with this build and can play most games with max settings @ 1920x1080 at 50+ Fps. So I believe its worth it.

Parts I picked are the ones I want, not due to price, but due to what I think my PC should be like.

On a side note I am making a new desk soon and maybe getting a second monitor.

Plus still need to buy decent speakers, A nice Corsair 2000 Headset, decent mouse and keyboard (as the cheapo one I have is starting to show...)

So I shall be using this thread soon for recommendations :)
