AMD FX-4170 Gaming build, Nvida GPU, Watercooling

you didnt knock the price for the heatsink i had

Good point, didn't notice it, sorry. Either way I am happy with what I have selected and at the end of the day I will be using it, not you. I was looking for constructive feedback but clearly everyone is too childish to even try.

Oh shut up.
People told you that you should have spent the money differently, you ignore them.
You buy the build then ask for "support"

Probably thought you were buying a good build and wanted people to go "Nice one OP", "+1" etc.

:p

Sorry but FX4 for that budget... really... can't justify...

Stop saying FX4, there are a few different variants of it.

FX-4100 = 3.6ghz

FX-4150 = 3.8ghz

FX-4170 = 4.2ghz

I have picked the FX-4170 as it is the best FX CPU for gaming as no games that I would play would even use more then 4 Cores. Not only that, you have spec'd the FX-8120, which is only a measly 3.1ghz which is one of the worst FX CPU's for gaming.

Yes, it is your money, and you will be using it... but, we are just trying to get you better performance for the money. Like, come on, anything (except maybe the 8150) in the Bulldozer range at a £900 budget is like flushing money down the toilet. And you mentioned you want to SLi the 560ti, but you won't be able to on that CPU, it will be heavily bottlenecked.

P.S. You'd be better off with a i3 2120... just saying...

Ok, I give up, we showed him the benchmarks that the Intel is better for money, he doesn't budge.

Then spec him a FX-8120 build that can overclock to the same levels, and he doesn't want, even though the extra cores will greatly benefit him with his 3D modelling.

Fine, here's a FX-4170 build that still beats the one you bought:

Last post, I'm outa here!

aint all about the Ghz you get from the CPU

A game running on the FX-8120 would only use 2-3 Cores at 3.1ghz, Running on the FX-4170 it would also use 2-3 Cores, which all happen to be clocked at 4.2ghz.

I know it isn't all about GHz, but a game running on basically the same CPU (due to it not being able to use all 8 cores but only 2-3) with a 1.1ghz slower clock will perform worse. Its fact.

Well, you have a point, except the turbo would put the FX8 up there, then you just overclock the turbo. Sick of knowing more about AMD than the tools who buy the CPU's.
But the 3570k would be faster :p

Ok, that's a lot better then what you previously posted. I have Chosen Nvidia due to PhysX as well. I plain to play games like Mafia II which improve greatly with proper PhysX support as the in game detail is raised greatly with shrapnel from explosions actually landing and effecting the game play.

When overclocking the FX-8120 it draws massive amounts of power and heat as obviously you are running 8 cores at 4+ghz, rather than my 4 cores. It was my original choice due to the modelling. Just the heat and power draw is not worth it.

The Turbo function disables 2 cores, the higher turbo function disables 4 cores, basically giving me my own current CPU.

To others..
I have done my research for the past month on this. Don't ask why I picked AMD, I just have, so for now just try to improve my AMD Build please.

If you wanted Nvidia for PhysX, should have waited for the GTX660.
BUT IT WOULD BE BOTTLENECKED.

How can you have done so much research and got it so, so wrong.

Another new member marketing AMD cpu's as 'gaming processors'. :D

He's not interested in the superior Intel option because then he can't come back later and post about how immense his FX4170 gaming PC is to sucker in more mugs. :p
