AMD Halts Optimizations for Mantle API

The prefixing is just the XML header call, its rewritten for Unix thats why the prefix is different, the function call is identical.
 
Thanks Humbug; been slaughtered at work not had time to respond; but you did it well for me.

What I said is correct; all AMD is moving from supporting mantle 1.0 on its own to supporting vulkan and dx12 which are all based off mantle 1.0.

Mantle 2.0 is Liquid VR which has been confirmed by several devs......but hey giving any praise to AMD for some is like getting blood from a stone....

You cant make up **** like DX12 is Mantle v1 then get annoyed when no-one praises AMD. lol

you should compare the dev manuals for dx12 and mantle. developers all over the net who got their hands on it said they are near identical. just a few names of some functions that are different.

TBH a lot of rendering APIs are largely similar - the approach for working closer to the metal will be largely shared as well. The documentation for DX12 is largely incremental updates on the DX11 stuff (obviously new techniques, etc. covered).

I don't know if mantle is the "same" as DX 12 i.e. a copy of it, however, the end result/outcome is very much the same, you just need to read anandtech's review and comparison of mantle and DX 12 so I wouldn't be surprised if both mantle and dx 12 code or whatever is pretty similar.....
 
Devs said DX 12 is Mantle; not just in that tweet but side by side compare of the dx; other devs here have backed that up.

Same thing with Vulkan - its not like wasn't proven there also - Lamb's just trolling now and he knows it - so most likely will have to put him on ignore after that last one line comment.

Devs (Not AMD) push for a low level API. DICE/EA create Mantle in collaboration with AMD (who originally was involved in the DX12 development remember) to produce the API that devs wanted. It was nice of AMD to 'assist' with it already working on the DX12 development previously.

Mantle never makes final release but guises itself in Beta for eternity.

Jump forward a bit, DX12 gets a release date with W10.

Mantle suddenly becomes DX12 lol.

Can you see how silly it is ?

We arent denying that DX12 was being talked about / in development.

But the version that it originally was going to be is probably what DX11.3 has become. with the original rendition being a direct continuation from DX11 with drivers still controlling everything.

DX12 in its current state most likely came about due to mantles release. it wouldn't have taken Microsoft long to throw it together considering they already have lower level api's on the consoles. The similarity could even be due to DX12 low level features being taken from Xboxone's api which AMD would have created.

the above could then be the reason for the similarities to DX12 to mantle etc. so by that logic then DX12 is a fork of mantle in a way.
