AMD - How To Overclock The Official Way Using Afterburner + Step By Step Overclocking Guide + Comple

Hello I was using the un-official way by editing the .cfg file, So I just went and started from .4 on your guide got the CCC limits increased and restarted.
I still have my OC and I can still set the voltage so am guessing it worked? or am I still using un-official method? :D

Thanks

You need to edit the config back to disable un-official overclocking or reinstall afterburner, (dont keep your user settings though) your choice.

See how it go's now Because before I did this I had the flicker (this site happens on most) But since doing that Not a single flicker so far maybe I am using official? lol
If I get one flicker I'll delete the .cfg file and try again.

Yep using the official way removes the flicker, plus zero core/ULPS/power play works properly. That means low clock speeds when idle and close to zero power usage while not in use. :)

In the un-official way the cards never clock down until you've run a 3d app. As soon as you apply a overclock profile clocks stay high.

Thanks mate so far I not had a single flicker :D Great work on this guide.

I have a problem, this has happened twice now,

When ever I set an overclock and go into a game, after a while the screen goes black and my voltage in MSI afterburner resets back to stock. Whats the reason for this? unstable?
mine has done this 3 times in borderlands 2, it always happens in a busy fight with loads of bandits around you
but Trixx hasn't changed, the OC is still there, this OC is either too high or the card is suddenly overheating.

i might reduce the oc and take off the auto fan, not sure yet, but i dont think the cards overheating, i might do some work on the rig this weekend and stress test the card, but right now i need to level up to level 27 because i'm getting absolutely slaughtered, the bandits are all 3 levels higher than me.

the best bet might be to reduce the OC to max Catalyst only, because this is way more stable than Trixx is anyway, finally i have flicker too.

it's odd because Bulletstorm is totallly stable, yet has very tough fights too, in fact worst than Borderlands in places, on my black screen it sais ``error report BORDERLANDS 2, System 32, DX 9`` i thought mine was system 64 ! because i'm also seeing a system 32 black screen menu window at start up, it appears and suddenly vanishes, where has that come from, it can only be from somewhere in Steam.

Sounds like an unstable gpu overclock, i get the black screen when my clocks are not stable in other games.

yea i might go back to Catalyst, plus find out what this system 32 thing is , i'll google it right now

``The System32 folder on a Windows 7 computer contains the operating system's most important files. If the files in the System32 folder become corrupted, the operating system can become highly unstable and will not even start under some circumstances. Use a Windows 7 installation disc or a Windows 7 repair disc to repair a System32 error on the computer.``

this makes sense, this error message appeared after i had a really bad blue screen ( BORDERLANDS 2, first time you meet Brick), this should be easy to fix.... i hope, because mine isn't as bad as this quote above, all of this is caused by fooling around too much with the flipping OC.

I followed the instructions as per the OP, but my core clock limit was only raised from 1050 to 1120.

Any idea how to go higher?

I'm running a Club3D 7850 RoyalQueen.

I just updated my gfx drivers from 12.8 to 12.10 and it wont let me go above 1100, any solutions?

Edit: nvm i just did the /xcl trick again and it worked

Well, I've been trying to Overclock my Sapphire 6950 2Gb Dirt3 edition and your guide was very helpful as doing any overclocking with any program other than CCC and now MSI afterburner (with your settings) causes the kind of screen glitching you describe - that's with Catalyst 12.10.

In fact even though my card is a Sapphire, Sapphire Trixx produces the same glitching even when using it to set timings to the stock settings - that's with Sapphire Trixx 4.3.0.

What's worse is that I've had issues setting Voltage on my card, actually moving it at all from 1.10V has been impossible till today (I'll make another thread about what I had to do to set the Voltage on my card in case anyone else is in the same boat because it was REALLY had to find out how to do).

The old version of Sapphire - 4.1.0 - allowed me to overclock the Voltage up to 1.18V on my card, but 4.3.0 has removed this feature! All I have is a Power Control %. That's true of Sapphire trixx (4.3.0), MSI Afterburner (with 2.25 beta 1 and the setting given in this thread and with the unsupported EULA set) and CCC.

(edit) My thread on how to modify the voltage on a Sapphire 6950 2Gb Dirt3 edition.

Works fine but the voltage control is blanked out still. I have enabled voltage control in the options but cannot get it to work in afterburner. It works using Trixx though ?
