AMD Mantle Vs. Direct X Battlefield 4 Multiplayer Benchmarks

That was the reason i rolled back to 13.12 WHQL. Bugs and lacking crossfire. I think i instructed that person to roll back because of bugs as well.

You're still attacking the straw man as you're arguing along the lines that I'm saying there's no improvement between AMD DX and AMD Mantle which I'm not. Dunno what else to say really.

No im saying that Mantle and a 290 will offer a smoother experience in rendering times than a 780 on DX.

What a relief.

LOL.

Take look at this Ultra footage I recorded with Mantle. Note how smooth the GPU and CPU line is. Now you go and do the same recording on same map with DirectX and you watch your line will be all over the place. With higher Frame times.

FreeSync will be a while yet, and as someone here who dont touch sync I have zero need for it :D

A fair comparison will need to be someone using an i7 4 core 8 threaded cpu. A 6 core 12 threaded cpu will remove some, but not all, of the DX API bottleneck due to its extra cores/threads.

OK - have you compared? Or got a link?

Not looking at frametimes because they're already low enough (and evidently consistent enough) to not really be noticeably improved upon?

I'm comparing it to the results from various tech sites that say before Mantle AMD have better frame times and less variance than Nvidia in this title on single gpu, like for like. Couple that with the fact that when i tested a single card, i could notice the difference in the smoothness on moving from DX to Mantle. So i can notice it with lower frame times (cpu+gpu) than you, you should be able to feel a smoothness increase with slightly higher frame times (cpu+gpu) if your 780 was able to move from DX to Mantle.

Long way of saying no then?

I said exluding frame times unless we're splitting hairs over 3-5ms difference :). Could you tell the difference between frame time x and frame time y with 3-5ms difference? I want your eyes if so :D.

You can feel the difference Rusty, so yes. If i can feel the difference with lower frame times then you will with higher frame times. You may not want to believe it, but its true. You just don't realise, but then you've only ever known DX so i guess thats why.

Another user that can feel the benefits.

"Lastly, the most amazing thing is the perceived smoothness that this API delivers as it evenly renders frames at stable intervals."

Nvidia performance, smoothness is no better in bf4 under dx than amd's. So i would expect Nvidia users to notice the same benefits if mantle was usable on Nv cards.

If i remember correctly it was Nvidia users complaining more on bf4 release about choppy game play. Amd's dx performance seemed to be pretty good from the off where smoothness was concerned.

Awesome find on that video. I might have to try out whatever hes using to record. Recording at 1440P on a single 290 is no mean feat.

If you bothered to read the description you would have found out.

How to use Mirillis Action with mantle:

How you record using Mirilis Action with the Mantle activate? My action dont recognize the battlefield 4

You have to run mirillis action in "Active Screen" recording mode and then you have to run BF4 in fullscreen windowed/borderless under the video options. The icon should then be visible and recording is possible.

I know rofls thats why i said whatever hes using because i didn't recognise the name of it. Did you wake up on the wrong side of bed this morning? :D :p

And anyother AMD user.

Send me the details Bumhug plox. ;)

Haven't tried it yet, the tabs to use to get to the AMD encoding app are highlighted in my screen shot.

Apparently you need to run BF4 in boarder-less full screen for Mantle recording to work.

Looks like you have to pay for it. I'll have a look around.

So you're happy that your current gaming experience is smooth as it can be, so you can see no benefit of G-Sync either presumably? No way it can be any smoother, right?

:D

I call it, the Mantle effect.

AMD and Dice now need to fix the outstanding bugs and improve support for Tahiti and other 7xxx users. 290 performance is outstanding. The biggest bug for me is a large cpu spike that occurs every 10 minutes or so. This issue appears to be crossfire related and does not affect single 290 users as far as i know.

ive just recieved a pcs+ 290 what faults are they having??

They don't have any faults. I think hes talking about when Gibbo tested two cards for mining and they were found to be faulty. He since tested more while mining and they worked fine.

Hows the card? Looks a nice solid brick the PCS.

matt are you staying on the new drivers or going back after testing like last lot?

Staying, very happy with 14.2, but then they've been specially optimised for 290 users. They ain't perfect, but drivers rarely are. I think Tahiti and 7xxx users are due more Mantle performance optimizations on the next driver set, bout 2+ weeks away. Worth trying them though to see how they go for you.

What do you play?

I downloaded the drivers but read here that the v-sync/crossfire issue is still part of the package, so I haven't installed them. Now BF4 has started crashing, so I've got a little extra motivation to try the update but I'd be curious to know what games you play that don't exhibit terrible terrible screen tearing.

Currently im only playing Battlefield 4 and i don't get screen tearing with vsync off in this title, so its not an issue. If i needed to use Vsync in BF4 I'd use either 13.11 Beta 8 or 13.11 Beta 2 and disable frame pacing in CCC. :)

Are you sure you're running Mantle there? Looks like DX to me but i can't be sure. Type Render.DrawScreenInfo 1 and hit enter in the console before taking the screenshots. I assume you're using 14.2 beta?

No it should be a flat line. Try restarting the pc and see if it still occurs. I assume you have frame pacing enabled in CCC? As long as it plays smooth though, it doesn't matter. The render times look good so i wouldn't worry too much.
