AMD "Never Settle" 12.11 Driver - benchmarks

Yeah looks like it only affects reference cards then, ah good dammit. This will annoy me. Might have to bios flash. Mind giving me your bios please borley? :D

Don't do it, it will bork your card. Just downloading Asus GPU tweak as you can manually set 2d clocks, will try that and report back.

I've installed the 12.10's on my Lighting, the 3D mark score was slightly lower, than my 12.8's by about 100 points ?

So, I increased my Lighting to "BE" clocks 1150MHz/1450MHz at stock voltage and it jumped up by 500 points.:)

Ok thanks let me know, and thats why we have two bios dave, to experiment. I've already tried and failed flashing a few different ones. :D

I don't think there's any point swapping from a 680 to a 7970 or vice versa at any point of time especially if you have to take a hit on selling them.

You're right mate thank you for bringing me back down to reality. I game at 1333Mhz with just +93mV on BF3 @ 1920x1200 4xAA and the GPU usage isn't even constantly at 95-100%. Small dips in the 70's but rarely as mostly 90%+. This is @ 4.2Ghjz HT on. So when I get the other card, then a 3D screen I'm going to have enough power even if I had 670 SLI, 7950 Crossfire so it's pointless and yes, it will only hit my pocket. I'm just at the time where I've not got it all yet and have been swayed side to side this round due to impulse purchases which hasn't been a pleasant experience until now. I'm more than happy so I need to stop being silly. Thank you again.

@C64, yes it should be 500Mhz. Have you got more than one monitor/screen hooked up?. It drives up the clocks if you have more than one screen but I can't remember what to as I just put the fan on a manually set low speed to stop it hitting crazy temps on auto. 900Mhz is excessive though but if it's stable and not causing problems then yeah I'd be happy :).

I hope this continues in the next series of AMD cards. No good if they release an amazing card that doesn't shine till the 11th driver revision. I just hope this wasn't business related as the consumer could have done with these a long time ago. I wonder if there will be a breakdown of what, why and when regarding these drivers as I'm pretty amazed at this :).

can someone tell me what mhz their cards running at whilst watching flash in a web browser ? is that running correctly as it should ? mines flittering between 800-900 mhz I could have sworn on 12.8 it was 500mhz for flash player hmm

Yeah LtMatt I have no prob if you think it's ok to give a try, if you still do can you link me to the program that copies your bios as it was a while ago I tried backing my bios up and have reformatted since then so don't have the prog anymore for back up and forgot what it it is.
Thanks

Dave, from the AMD rep.

"We're aware of the clock issue on the 7970, we've had two reports out of Europe today. We're on it."

Off to bed now will play around some more with it tomorrow.

450 / 1200 with a 1200 / 1500 overclock, i think that has changed from 12.8 (300 / 800)

its fine, its probably part of the update :)

hows that fine ? my 6970 is flittering between 800 and 900 mhz in 2d mode just watching a flash video that means I am using a lot of watts compared to 500mhz where it should be

that means I am using more electricity creating more heat on my gpu whilst watching flash etc when there's no need to I'd rather have my low clocks for flash player back I only want full throttle in 3d games.

have they simply bumped up 7 series 2d clocks to try and fix the issue but have in turn forced other cards to clock up too high ?

Reposting this from the other 12.11 beta thread because I just installed this.

Much improved performance in Chivalry Medieval Warfare, but with Afterburner and a slight OC, it's forcing constant voltage and my memory clock isn't scaling down either, slightly higher temps as well.

Any hope for a fix for this?

Let me guess, you have a reference 7970?

I have the same problem, only seems to affect reference 7970 users, non reference users are ok.

Try right clicking on flash video goto settings and disable hardware acceleration, see if that helps
