Amd & Nvidia ripping us off !

It's not rocket science to see that AMD & Nvida have the tech to give us over 200 fps in ultra gaming if they wanted too but are just holding back milking the money from us every couple of months , It kinda takes the **** to be honest as I'm happy to pay £500 for a Graphics card but not if it only gets knocked of the top spot a couple days after release . The people that have just purchased the AMD 290x must be ****ed of knowing they could have paid a little more or waited a little longer for the 780ti that has just ripped it to peace's with a 30% increase in graphics power , all Nvidia did was wait and bang ! see you later AMD, So the tech was their all a long ! I really want to buy a Graphics card that will play all games at ultra at 2560 x 1440 res ..... I know the tech is their to do this but we have to just wait and wait like muppets while these two company's just increase the power a noch a little to out power each other, Just give is a 50FPS boost ffs and stop messing about and give us the tech we want now.

Purely out of interest; are you on benefits?

Isn't consumerism about creating a demand the profiteering from it?

I don't have a problem with what any hardware company does because in the end, i'm the one that has control over my wallet. You get to a point when you have to be sensible about these things.

I'm at the stage (and have been for a while) where i only upgrade if i have to start compromising on the settings. Since I game at 1080p, the requirement is becoming less frequent.

Yeah.. the sooner you realize hardware is for using, not for e-peen, the better :P

I'm in the same situation, can run everything at max on 1080p/60hz, but I will upgrade when I need to. (*cough cough* Star citizen)

I still hate the hardware prices, but they wouldn't be as high if people didn't buy cards they don't actually need right away..

High-end tech doesn't represent great value for money.

High-end tech doesn't stay at the top for long.

This thread has totally opened my eyes.

Good post, sums it all up pretty well.

the OP does have a point about the TI, but why would they release it if they dont have to, i think its fair to say they are trying to maximize profits :)

same as intel sitting there not doing a lot either, i want new cpu's too! dont want a 4770k that is not better than a 3770k, want new! :(

still, a little passion to push the industry forward wouldnt go a miss
its sad if money really is the only thing that drives them

You know what bothers me more than gpus? hard drives. we're only now returning to the 2011 prices, two years after the 'great flood'. Well, except without the warranty cover of course.

That's milking it.

Exactly. The point that you and you only are in control of what you buy often gets missed and it is a critical point.

People whinge about prices being high but they reflect what the market is willing to pay. If you don't think it's worth it, don't buy. It's incredibly simple

There's far cheaper compromises available around the £150-200 levels where you can play games on high with FXAA and get high FPS and still an amazing looking game.

Being on the cutting edge of technology has, and always will, be extremely expensive without massive gains over high settings. That's the way it's always been with occasional exceptions.

It's fairly obvious isn't it? End of the day these are businesses which make our tech have to make a profit like any other business. If they give us the hardware that is capable playing/running games at over 200 FPS for the next 5 years then people with this hardware are not going to upgrade their rig for ATLEAST 5 years so it could quite easily last up to 7 years and that will destroy the market. The hardware they release is more than capable of playing the latest games at more than playable FPS whilst lasting quite easily for 2 years even 3 before upgrading becomes something to consider.
This keeps demand flowing and sales going whilst not shooting them self in the foot.

Without making money, they can't exist or expand. It's the nature of business.

ye, money is an enabler in life
but if you are passionate about the work you are doing you would use some of that money your sitting on to do new exciting things

its sad if money is the *only* thing driving them

^^ This.

There is the reason AMD / Nvidia are pushing 4K so aggressively, they know the market is saturated with 1080P capable GPU's, from low / midrange to high / enthusiast and even APU's soon starting with Kaveri.

Nvidia want to keep selling GPU's at the highest price point, if nobody needs a new one for 1080P then they would have no market. Hence the reason 4K is so heavily advertised, they want people to feel they need that upgrade.

Reality is most people don't need a 290X or GTX 780ti. Most people would be happy with a single 7950 or GTX 670 @ 1080P. Those cards are powerful / affordable.

The OP should only be upset at himself for making the purchase imho.. There is always something better around the corner..

Couldn't agree more Ragnabex.

The only time I bought top of the line card was the 8800GTX and kept it 4 1/2 years. (Dec 2006, until May 2011)

Hence I took the decision to sell the two 7950s which bought in september (without loss at least) and dithering between 290 and 780. I only play at 1080p@120hz, not bothered about higher res tbh. (especially not 4K, but maybe grab a 1600p next year).

However while I know the major benefits of the 290, I see the 3d vision kit collecting dust on the top self.

My main problem guys is I have upgraded to 2560 x 1440 Monitor so would want to play games at these settings and on ultra and get 60fps all the time. I just think it sucks that even the top end card like 780ti and 290x only just hit around 50-57 max from Benchmarks , would have expected for £500 -600 to get over 70 fps atleast , I'm just disapointed, I will just wait a little longer as I want a single Graphics card non of this sli stuff that will just play top games on max settings at this res. Thx
