A bit surprised no one is suggesting wait till threadripper chips are out. Although with the recent price cuts iam very tempted jump all over the r7 1700

I've been asked for input into a new PC build primarily for flight sims and he's advised that many cores are required (I'm checking into this for certain)
There's this at £448.99
Ryzen 7 Eight Core 1800X 4.00GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail
Or this
i7-6900K 3.20GHz (Broadwell-E) Socket LGA2011-V3 Processor - Retail
at £830
Seems like a big difference but is the extra worth it? The build isn't really budget limited (£3K just for the box) but adding lots of RAM, big SSDs and a top GPU soon eats away the budget.
Motherboards for TR might be expensive as well:/
AMD dont make their chipsetNot necessarily, I think Intel like to charge a hefty premium for X series chipsets, to intice Vendors to X399 i bet AMD charge very little for their chipsets, for them its not about profiteering from Chipsets. its about bloodying Intel's nose at every turn.
AMD dont make their chipsetASmedia do but yes you are correct.
