AMD or NVIDIA

Considering the original question was a question of 'What do you guys reckon is better ? , either the 7970 or TITAN???', nobody can argue against the fact that the TITAN IS better. They're not asking which is best based on cost or £/FPS or anything else.

Best answer so far. :)

+1

TITAN > 7970 in performance

If price is an issue then get a single 7970 if you are going to run multiple monitors or higher res then go crossfire 2 x 7970's but if money is no object then get a Titan...... :)

As an ATI user I have to say, If price is no option, Get the Titan. It will burn anything straight out of the box.

But if you need to watch the pennies. Look into 1x7970 or even 2. It could leave you enough money to get a 120hz monitor. depending on your wallet size.

Titan is the best-no question about it.

I have no problems with microstutter and games run smooth with crossfire. Not everyone has those issues.

Users that don't use AMD are the loudest at informing the masses actually using AMD/CrossFire about it not working/driver problems.

Except that there appears to be a growing amount of evidence that shows that while xfire setups give big fraps numbers, the number of frames that make it to the screen is quite a bit lower.

If this was a none issue, AMD wouldn't have announced that they were working on fixing the issue. I'm also sure they would be putting out their own numbers to show the PCPer numbers were wrong if that was the case.

I went 7950 xfire -> single card (had to RMA) -> 7950 xfire again. I was really surprised at how when I went back to the single card, the smoothness of what I was seeing onscreen (a single 1600p display) did not change all that much. The recent FCAT frame counting stuff now makes a lot of sense of what I was seing.

If I was after a single card and didn't want to spend the silly money that Titan's go for I would be all over a 7970 but I wouldn't go xfire again until they resolve the runt frame problems.

If i play BF3 at High / Ultra settings with 2 6970's its a lot smoother than playing it with one. Other games are the same for me. So the problem isn't there 100% of the time. I don't think I have experienced micro stutter at all with crossfire.

Titan is a good card but it isn't really worth the money. You can build a whole PC for the same price.

Unfortunatly it was a few years back so finding the quote now isn't easy but AMD made the (a) decision to bias for raw performance numbers over frametime consistency and what actually makes it to the screen. When someone first started to pull data together a few years back showing the issue they approached AMD for a statement and were told AMD considered higher performance of more value to their customers - so I suspect that to some degree it will be a decision that will get revisted rather than an "issue" that gets fixed so to speak.

Given the choice of being given a Titan or a HD 7970 for free, 99.9% of people on these forums would take the Titan.

The remainder would be discussing with the men in white coats their plans for world domination.:D

To be honest, No reply from the OP, Trolled to start a back and forth thread??. I feel we all should stop replying to such threads as the answer is in the forum with out the need to post a basic minimal thread.

Most people would want info on if for the price, it can be beaten, which is can. But to ask between a titan and 7970 with no mention of anything else seems to point to a flame starting thread.

I'm out

I haven't used an AMD card in a long while, but I've been under the impression that AMD have upped their game in this area?

Well they dont do monthly driver releases anymore.. Have not seen a new driver for about 5 months now!

They are OK but Nvidia is better I think. I have a 5870 at the moment. I am not a "fanboy" I have owned a few cards from both manufacturers and that is my experience. Will prob get another AMD card next but only because of price/performance... I would get nvidia if I had the money.
