Hi all.

I'm just curious, is anyone else out there still using an AMD Phennon II X6 CPU? It's a little long in the tooth but mine's clocked at 3.8GHz and it's still holding up when paired with an Nvidia 970.

I'm not much of a gamer these days, but Fallout 4 will be on my Xmas list

Perhaps one day a core i5 will be needed.

Im currently using the x6 1090t as well since my 8350 took early retirement the other day.
Im going to try and get the 8350 fixed out through the warranty but well see what happens.

the 1090t seems a good cpu though. if and when I get another fx the 1090t will be going into a build for my son.

Nope had one though and it was a solid chip. I'd look at upgrading it though if I'm honest with you, especially if you aim to be playing modern games.

I did have an 1100T as well, but sold that and got an 8350 a while ago. In many ways I prefer the old X6 - six conventional cores compared to the modular 8350 that has 8 cores but shares resources in the 4 modules, meaning it is way less efficient. I revitalised the X6 1090T a while back with an SSD and I hope that machine has many years of life left yet.

i have a amd 8350 overclocked to 4.5ghz, it struggles on games like GTA 5, so im looking to go to intel

my 8350 was running stock with an msi 7950 boost edition and it has played any games on high setting that ive tried.

Im tempted to go intel if my 8350 doesnt get exchanged ill be looking to go intel before the end of the year. if it does get replaced ill hold off till the middle of next year and my son will get the 8350 with my sabertooth board
or I might try the 9590 and my son will get the 8350 in the gigabyte board I have sitting

i have a 290x amd, overclocked 1100mhz, if you look at benchmarks the amd 8350 stuggles against old i5 intel cpus , well i had it for over 2 years , and got an upgrade itch

I had a 1090T, great chip.
The motherboard, memory and CPU went into a friends machine and is still running well.
It was only the fact that I wanted a mini ITX build that I sold it.

I've had a Phenom II X6 1055T (2.8GHz) in my rig for the past five years. I'm only now in the process of upgrading to an X99 5820K system so will be retiring the X6 to another rig.

The X6 runs cool at stock and has handled anything I've thrown at it. Tbh, the main reason I'm upgrading is because the rest of the ecosystem (motherboard, RAM, IO, etc) around the CPU is so outdated and I can't really upgrade it any further without replacing everything. The CPU still performs well with a lot of current software given its age, but I've found the system as a whole increasingly sluggish over the past year, so with the Windows 10 release and Skylake's seemingly lukewarm reception, an X99 system seems like a good inflection point to upgrade.

Had a 1055T in my mini ITX system. Got flogged for good money several years ago. :(

Looking back on it I should've kept it for a few more years, as the AMD X4 chips I've 'upgraded' to since for my main PC (, which still sits in the same itx case) haven't really been any quicker, just more efficient.

That's the upgrade itch for you though.

Still running my old £30 athlon X2 5200 as Phenom FX 5200 x4 (somewhere around a 955 or 965).

Still does me for most gaming. I occasionally think about upgrading but it's amazing how well a Phenom II x4 equivalent still does in most games.

Of course if I was intolerant of dipping below 60fps I'd have upgraded already (probably to Intel) but I'm not and I'm rather fond of that CPU.

Got an X2 550 BE (third core unlocked) which for some reason wont pull decent frames anymore on BF4 (5-30fps) despite running ok previously on BF3 (25-60fps). The mobo will only accept upto 1045T processor but I wanted to know if upgrading it was even worth it or if I should just ignore the X6 processors and upgrade to a newer mobo+cpu combo?

You guys seem confident on the performance but I am not so sure the Phenom range - and especially the 1045T - can cut it anymore. Your thoughts please guys?

It is great to see some love for the Phenom II X6 !! At a time when Intel was only giving us 4 cores with hyperthreading, the X6 with 6 true cores was amazing. And when Intel did bring out a six core CPU, the price was horrendous. And as above, the X6 is still a very capable CPU, even more so when overclocked a bit.

To the poster above - personally i wouldn't be spending money upgrading an old AMD system. Best to start afresh with new Intel motherboard/CPU.

I would upgrade to something newer personally.
as I say I was running with the fx8350 and I have noticed a difference using the 1090t.
don't get me wrong its a good cpu and its got me out a hole the now until I either sort out another cpu for my board or just calll it a day and buy a cheap Intel i5 bundle

I remember when it became clear what a let down the first Bulldozer CPU's were that the price of the 1090T went through the roof on Ebay :).
