AMD Phenom 9600+ Black Edition in stock!

I'll be building a Quad Core system soon, I was planning on getting a E2140 until Intel's 45nm Quad Cores came out.

But the other day when i was discussing my build with someone they said that the Phenom is better when all the cores are being used and the Intel Quad Cores were faster when only 1-2 cores being used which is why their faster in games as not a lot of games use all 4 cores.

Now the main stuff and programs I'll be using with my new build all make use of Quad Cores, so shall i be buying an AMD Phenom instead of an Intel Quad Core because of this?

Not really true. The Q6600 will perform better in most (all?) situations. However, there's something that makes me want to go back to AMD again!

Most situations where all 4 cores are used, the gap doesn't shrink at all. Being 'non-native' isn't a limitation of Intel's quads.

q6600 is abit faster than the phenom in games, stock to stock. but it isn't far apart... the q6600 can overclock more though..

stop it with this 'which is better' rubbish, niether are better, there both good CPUs, yes the Q6600 is ever so slightly faster clock for clock, but AMD processors (even in the 'conroe is best thing since sliced bread' months) have always been priced competatively in recent years, meaning £ for £ your getting much the same whichever you buy, and im sorry but 99.9% of people don't give a monkeys about overclocking, and hes right, this processor is perfect for people who already have AM2 motherboards

If it goes up to 3Ghz on air then maybe i shall consider it. There is also word that the B3 stepping will actually resolve in a chip being a bit slower or faster than the current B2 stepping?

Interesting CPU but at that price it isn't worth it, wont be too long before you can pick it up for a good £20/25 cheaper I'd imagine.
From reading the experiences of desktop users who've got the current B2 chips, the TLB bug doesn't seem to be much of an issue. I'm not in the slightest bit worried about buying a B2 and I wont be running the "fix" that is available.

b3 will be the same as the b2 but just without the bug, where the b2 as the tlb bug which when u put the TLB bios fix it as a performance hit, but most people don't need the TLB bios fix.

Congrats getting the chip on sale before everyone else (from what I can tell)

Any idea if it's the new revision with the TLB Errata fix?

Didnt think the new revison would be out for quite a while now... like months!

Also the TLB Errata aint as serious as it reads to be... i know its a serious thing to happen, but the conditions that need to be met for the problems to happen are VERY rare and unlikely to happen to power users never mind general pc users :)

I've been watching this on US forums and most people seem to get 2.9-3GHz on air, some pushing past this, HardOCP managed 2.8/2.9 & 3GHz on the stock cooler.

The B3 should prove rather interesting.

For those of us looking to upgrade from socket 939 in 3/4 months time (like me)...

Once the TLB bug is sorted and there's a 9900 black edition for sub £200, I may show some interest. Otherwise, early days yet!

Nice to see AMD trying to attract the enthusiast with an unlocked multi. Should be more of this to be honest.
