AMD Phenom II Breaks 7GHz Barrier

I want to see what they can do with the 125w 965 next....

Or maybe even the 975 when it arrives! But I think they're the same just turned the multiplier up a notch?

Wasn't how high they could get it, was how high they could get it to run 3dmark!

Its a bit of a last blast for pure MHz tho... if I can find a board for this tigerton setup with a PCI-e x16 slot it would be a breeze to beat it... and EVGA have a 4-way setup with the new gulftown coming up which will prolly smash it.

7ghz not too shabby, shame it gets beat by a 4.5ghz i7.

clock speed race died a long time ago. however if amd cant get thier instructions per clock up then they have no option but to get higher clocking cpus out of the factory.

how times have changed, back in the day amd would beat out a 3ghz p4 by using a 2ghz opteron. now the tables have turned.

Would rather see more cores than more ghz these days.

Though i remember way back when PC Format had "1000mhz!!!" on their front cover like it was yesturday!

I remember that! I was very young then, but my Grandad used to get that mag so I read it. :P (Think it was that mag anyway, it had 1000mhz in a huge font on the front!)

I'd rather see massive clocks and more cores personally. Intel should make the i9 4.5ghz stock, then they could charge whatever they liked for it! :D

Second that... however it's could to be sort of a reasonable price xD...

You call the price of the current i7 975 reasonable? :P

I reckon it'll be 1k at least, but say you're planning a tri or quad 5970 setup, so you'll have a £300 board, it'd be a crime not to watercool the lot really, then you'd want to have a really posh case, probably have to have two PSUs seeing as the 5970s need 300w each...

Suddenly £1k for the highest spec commercial Intel CPU ever seems OK. :P
